Hello!

Me and a few of my class mates are working on a 5 week project together in Uni. We're about 3 weeks into development and this is what we have so far. The game is called Shopper Rush and the premise goes a little something like this: "You desperately want the new hot gadget and you're ready to do whatever it takes to get it. However, you share the same thought with hundreds of other people!"

So basically, you start out at one end of the shopping mall and need to get to the otherside as fast as possible in order to get your long awaited gadget. You share the space with up to 1000 AI controlled player, which are also doing all they can in order to get to the store. You have to shove people around and over-turn objects you will find (like tables etc) along the way to stop the people behind you. You could say that the basic game mechanics are based on flow dynamics and group behaviour. For example; If 100 people are trying to take the stairs, it will clog up and you will probably be stuck along with all those other people. So you're might be better of taking a slightly longer way around the stairs.

We're in the Swedish Game Awards with this game, so we hope that we will make it to the finals. Remember, this is only 3 weeks into development, I'll make another post in May when I can release the game (Thanks to SGA). Just want to tease you guys on one of my projects :)

So, what do you think?

That looks and sounds ****ing awesome, I can't wait to play this, I'm a huge freak on indie games!:D
Heck, I'd even consider paying 5 USD for this game because it sounds so bloody fun!:D

This game does sound really cool!

If you offer it for free download, it can't hurt to setup a paypal address for donations. I'd donate money if this game is as awesome as it sounds.

:bounce:

This sounds awesome. Aren't you the person who knows someone with a Wii dev kit too?

You finish it, you release it to us..

GOT IT!? :D

lol at Spicy Boot Palace :D

The game looks really cool. Good luck!

I know some people working on Wii games and I know some about Nintendos future plans on the matter, we'll see when they put them into play though.

Thanks for all the comments! We will release it as soon as SGA allows us too, both the game and the source code.

We got a lot of time before SGA so we will add sweet details to it, like multiplayer and some other game modes (or extend the one we got now... like running back with the gadget you just bought but with all the little guys chasing after you :p)

I'll think about donations, not something I had in mind, but it wouldn't hurt.

Oh yeah, I think you will like the soundtrack for the game too. It's some kind of 50-60 orchestra kitsch (a kind of cheesy shopping music you could say) but uptempo to go along with the "chaotic" action on screen :) A really interesting mix.

Haha that does look awesome!
with the ability to recreate the PS3 launch I hope :p.

When did you say you were releasing it?

Mid april, beginning of June... worst case. I'll see if I can read up on the rules so we can release it earlier.

Dear god you should do as dekstar says and add missions.

"Get a PS3 by all means possible. Then get home in time before eBay forbids sales of it online!"

Very cool Majestic!

Junkie Chase by Curtis Mayfield would be great. It's one of the tracks on the Superfly album. Another suggestion would be Tropicando by Les Baxter. It's on DJ Kicks, a compilation by the Thievery Corporation. I own both albums, so if you want me to upload those tracks for you, just PM me your e-mailadress and I'll put them on YouSendIt.com.

We're composing our own music for this game, just so we can release it online (and enter the Awards). But i'd still like to hear them... so PM sent :)

hey i really dont want to bug you with technical details (unless you dont mind) but i just wanted to know if the game was developed on an opensource engine or if it was developed by you guys from the ground up also what programming language did you guys use?.

they're using an opensource 2d engine i believe, because of time constraints, but correct me if i'm wrong majestic

Sounds fantastic. I hope to see this on the Wii Indie Channel whenever it launches (not actual name). :)

You should add Waldo in every level, and if you find him he gives you pepper spray powers.

That is correct. We're using HGE as our engine, but everything else like AI, pathfinding, collision and so on are our own stuff. We got another project in a few months where we will be doing our own 3d engines for. Stay tuned :)

theotherguy: I'm actually not a coder myself, I'm a designer which basically means I do everything except for coding.

ReeeLLEEeaAASEEE!

Good concept. Hope it's fun to play!

Really well done guys. Nice to see some creative work.

Good work, keep it up! Looks great fun.

I see a Dawn of the Dead-style zombie mod before long. :E
