Yesterday night I charged it to max and left it in my drawer. This morning I woke up and the indicator said half the battery was gone (even though I hadn't even used it). I didn't think much of it since its happened before when I didnt charge it long enough. So I turn it on and start listening to some SOAD. Then half an hour later the iPod abruptly stops. I can't turn it on again. So I go back and plug it into my com to recharge it. A couple of hours later I take it out and start listening to it again. Fifteen minutes later the battery dies AGAIN. Dammit.

There are guides out there that tells you how to install a new battery, all DIY.

The odd thing is that the same thing happened to my friends iBook some time ago. I suspect there's something fundamentally wrong with Apple's batteries accross their entire product line.

if its under warrenty no problem. fill out a request form from apple you will have it back within a week(unless over the weekend).

now the ibook i have no idea. unless it was an old model the battery could have just died old age but meh.

Right there! That's what killed it!

Lol, I kid, but seriously, they're supposed to replace the battery even if it isn't under warranty.

They're supposed to replace it because Ipod LiIon batteries will die, and are unreplaceable. That's like selling somebody a PC case with an unreplacable PSU, and once you install the parts, they get stucked in.

I'm about to get an iRiver, anyone heard anything bad about their batteries?

yeh they are fine, good pieces of kit :)

whihc one are you getting im probs going to get the h10 5 gig unless currys bring in the 6 gig line :) i get a discount there u see

I think there was a settlement that allowed Apple to replace the battery for free in iPod minis..

Just to clarify - from what I can tell, you charged it up to the point where it reached maximum capacity then unhooked it, yes? Because it's understandable that it's failing if you continued to charge it for hours after it reached max.

No complaints whatsoever from mine (H-120) - provides 14-16 hours with each full charge.

apple will replace it, but after the warrenty is up you have to pay for it.

and the ipod battery setlement was only for 1st adn 2nd gen ipods i think

Yeah and most of the time the battery starts loosing it's power around a year and half.
If it happened within that first year, they will replace it for ya though.

You can go online and find a place to order Ipod batteries for pretty cheap. Infact some of them have better battery life than the one that came with it. Try doing it yourself. Or pay apple 100$ for a battery replacement if it happend after the first year. Unless of course you bought Apple Care.

ummm I usually leave it to charge overnight. I havent got the batteries replaced yet, its slightly better now, lasts for a couple of hours before dying but the battery life is still a lot shorter than before. It's still within warranty but I lost the receipt so I cant claim warranty :(

sry for bumping my old thread.

Meh, dont worry about it. The forum is pretty much dead at the moment so any activity is nice.

Pity about the warranty...........now i've got to go and get an ipod.

You think that battery sucks? Think about the Ipod Nano!!! Probaly a Ishit nano.

I'd stop doing that, as it's really not good for it. A few hours extra is alright, but the whole night on a regular basis is likely to cause damage.
