I am really disappointed at this point...trying to get this (i guess) awesome game to run since yesterday evening, and had no luck yet.changed my drivers like 10 times, updated direct x and everything.but no luck.

my problem is:i installed the game from my retail dvd, finished registering it with steam and everything, so far it works fine.i can start the game, get to main menu without any problems, can change my settings and start / or load a game.
i tried to start a new game,it loads,i can see the loading screen, and after that screen the "Half-Life 2" Sign appears, my comp starts to work and i hear a Windows Error Sound - Crash to Desktop, no Error Message - Nothing!i really have not the slightest clue what still i can do.

i am trying to run the game on a XP 1800+ with 768 mb DDR Ram, an Radeon 9700 Pro on Windows XP Professional.I changed Drivers just for this game after it didn't work from Catalyst 4.09 to 4.10, 4.11 and the latest Omega Drivers - no success!

i am simply down right now, and after reinstalling the game again (which didn't work either) i am at the step now to say goodbye to HL2 and put the DVD back in it's case.

Hope any of you guys can maybe help, cause like mengioned above, i have not the slightest clue what this could be.

Help much appericated. :rolling:

Try turning your settings right down - resolution, details - the whole lot. If you can get the intro done save somewhere and try turning them up again. Just a thought. The intro uses all sorts of wacky stuff that may be causing the crash.

there must be a solution for your problem, you can contact valve for it,
but don't give up, my game won't work to :( (just a few levels and it crashed) maybe you can test the counter strike source?

did that allready,without result,sadly.i don't wanna give up!i wanna play it... :(

you know, i do have quite some expierence with games and got a lot of stuff to run,but now i just dunno where i should continue...maybe i can find someone with the same error...

if you have anymore ideas, something i could do in cfg files or stuff like that, feel free to post it.

Same problem, but i have managed to play to chapter2. Now it crashes everytime i activate some guards(?) i must pass. Think I got an memory error first time, but now its nothing but the sound :(

it must be some kind of reading error or whatever...how can i check that my game is proper installed?i checked the infos in steam, everything allright.i also downloaded quite some data from there, and it takes up the 4,5 or whatever gigs on my hdd...

i just dunno...the menu works fine!it can't be any kind of DX or Graphic Drivers problem...

OK, something must be seriously wrong here.this is what i get when trying to start CS:S :burp:

maybe mengioned allready,i've got the retail version on dvd...(+reinstalled it once allready)

maybe it's not important, but i installed it from my LG DVD-RAM Drive.Maybe i should take the normal Read-Only DVD Drive?but then there should have been errors while installing...

yeay,triple post...sorry for that.

Counterstrike Source works now, flawless, just had to copy the mss32.dll from one game folder to another.great.stresstest 65 fps,i am happy with that.

now i just need to work out the bug why halflife shuts down...

wouldn't that be some kind of different error i get then?

i mean,i tried it on 640x480 low detail also, and it doesn't work.

seems to be the memory problem or whatever that everyone has.i can jump via console into level 1,2,3 etc. for example, just not the intro.

guess i'll need to relax and wait for a fix.10 hours of work to get it to work till now for...nothing.:)
