Ok let me first start off by saying i dont intend for this to be a hl2 mod. I orginally came up witht he following idea and had it copyrighted for the sake of it. If people are brave enough to hop on and say hey lets make it into one kick ass mod ill do it but for now the design doc is just sitting on my desk collecting dust so i thought i would share it with you guys.

Ive only played a couple of MMOG,(EQ, AC2, PS) but one thing ive always noticed is its usually (well with the exception of http://atitd.com/)centers around combat. At first when playing MMOGs i found it fun, then it just started turning into a non-stop treadmilling. So i was inspired to come up with some ideas that didnt revolve around killing stuff. My ideas center around one of my favorite things to do in MMOs-explore.

The concept is that its a post apocalypse world. Long before some unknown force destroyed a large population of the world, now nature is beginning to take back over. Trees and foliage grow along the sides of buildings and a vibrant and beautiful nature. There is only so many people on this world left,it will be constant with whatever the number of players on the server to give it more realism.

These people band together to rebuild and solve the mystery of what happened to the world. There are many things players can do, for one they can do story based "missions". Now i know what your thinking, that it will just be a fetch mission or something close to that but the idea i had would be that the players get to go and explore the world. Missions are heavily team and puzzle oriented (although players who want to solo will have options open to them).

Players may explore long forgotten cities, solving puzzles (of different nature, non will be block pushing, key finding type puzzles but will require logic, teamwork..etc.) and looking for new technology to expand their current. Players may also help rebuild the world. Players will have to work together to build cities to thrive in and expand. Also politics and economy (weighing heavily on trading) are player based. This leaves the world free for the players to shape.

Players also have to worry about "hunger" and "thirst", much like in some MMO games youll have to eat and drink regularly. Players can grow their own veggatation, gather water..etc. (im trying to avoid hunting sense it would go into combat)and trade with others for what they need.

There are major conflicts though. Your environment works against you, and you have to think accordingly to where you are. For example in a desert you get thirsty very fast and may have hullucinations. Also natural disasters occur depending on the time of the year and where they are. During the winter blizzards hit hard, summer brings tornados,...etc. Players have to keep this in mind when building structures or it could easily be destroyed.

The above hints at another thing i would like to stick in which is passing seasons. Everything would act accordingly, such as what veggatation could be grown..etc. I have a bunch of other ideas such as recreational activites for players and such but this is the overall concept.

Id also like to add that if it were to be based on a engine such as source there may be combat included. Maybe three nations are fighting over resources in order to build their nation better than the other.

What do you think? Im actually wanting to make this but i dont have a development team or resources for such so email me if you wanna work something out. ([email protected])Id also like to add that im wanting it to be light harded with a comedic aproach as opposed to the more serious games of our times. Im also wanting to give it a philosophical nature, i cant go into details here but i thought i would just throw it out here. If you have any ideas/suggestions you would like to add please do.

That was way too much for me too read ...but I saw something that caught my eye tho...and thats worrying about eating and drinking, I love that idea
