My mouse is acting weird.

I was playing a game and had to close out of it because it stopped responding. After that, much of the time my mouse doesn't respond to simple clicks or double clicks. Sometimes I have to hit it 6 or 7 times before it wants to double click a file. Sometimes also when I click and hold to drag something it'll unclick and then click again after the mouse moves to a different spot.

I've uninstalled the drivers, reinstalled them and restarted the computer and still nothing.

An ideas? This impairs my ability to play any game or do anything really since it's so troublesome.

You should probably get a new one, cause my old one started to die like that.

This is a relatively new one. It's a basic one, but it's still relatively new. It was working JUST fine until I had to manually shut down that game.

Microsoft Basic Optical Mouse.

I can't imagine a software issue can cause the hardware micro switch to act wonky.

EDIT: I changed mice, and it's doing the same thing on this one... WHAT THE ****. I broke the back of that mouse trying to get inside to see if it might be something internal too. heh. Damn mouse wouldn't let you unscrew it, so I had to break a plastic piece, but it's fine otherwise.

EDIT 2: Installed a third one... The problem no longer seems to happen.

<sigh> Why would my stupid mouse just stop working like that... Now I'm stuck with a shitty Micro Innovations one. My hand feels so awkward when I use it and I cannot seem to be very precise with it compared to other mice.
