Have just built a new pc, the spec is-

AMD 64 3500+ (130nm) artic cooling fan
Corsair 1gb CMX3200 XL
ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe
Seagate 80gb hd
Dell 19" CRT Monitor
XFX 6600GT pci
Cheftec Dragon Case with 4 fans, 2 x side, 1x front, 1x PSU
Thermatake 490w PSU

It has been playing half-life 2 with everything set to high and at 1600 x 1200! Except the monitor goes into sleep mode!!!

Is my graphics card getting to hot and turning its self off? There is no warning of anything is wrong! Then the monitor suddenly goes into sleep mode without worning. I have to restart the machine to get it on again.

This is really anoying!! Cant play it for more than 10 mins!!

...isnt it the computer the puts the monitor into sleep mode? Did you spend all that money on SLI to buy 2 6600GTs?

I've sorted it now!

Updated both graphics card and monitor driver.

Only have the one 6600GT at the moment. But it runs Doom3 and Half-Life 2 with FULL EVERYTHING and at 1600 x 1200!! So not in any rush to get a second card or better card. Doesnt seem to need one! :E :E

I have a hard time you can run doom 3 on 1600x1200 on ultra quality, especialyl considering the pc I'm on now cant. This pc has
Athlon 64 3500+
Geforce 6800 GT
1 gig pc3200 corsair xms
asus a8v deluxe

Anyway, thats cool that you got that working. Happy hunting!

I bought an A8N-SLI Deluxe + 3200 ( 90 nm) and a 6600gt, just waiting on shipment then i'll be at the same happiness.

I'm sure I can. Looking at your spec it seams unlikely though! I'll check it tomorrow and post back if I can. Maybe I've missed some thing in the settings.

I am definatly running half-life 2 on full candy at 1600 x 1200. Dont know how to find out what frame rates I'm getting though. Any ideas?

Have just checked it and I was write it can. Wicked!

Set to 1600 x 1200, Ultra and all the other stuff 16x Anis, etc

Is that above average preformance for what I have then? I havnt overclocked anything either yet. Because I'm new to this so dont know how yet. Need to get 3D mark and benchmark it!!

For frames per second in Half-life 2, first you need your console enabled. Options > Keyboard Advanced

Then in console ( use ~/` to open it ) type cl_showfps 1 ( net_graph 1 ,2 ,or 3 works also )

Yeah, thats just a tad above normal (sarcasm). How the hell can that outperform my dads pc that I'm on now? It's only a 128 bit card...wtf

Honest Vigilante, It is working. I havnt played it for more than an hour. So maybe it gets a lot more graphicly intense further into the game?

I got the demo of 3D Mark 2005 and got 3220. Which I think is about right for the system yeah?

Cheers Washuu, I'll try that and report back my fps. Any idea how to check fps in Doom3?

Open up the console (ctrl+alt+~) and type "com_showfps 1" for the fps

Done the fps on both games.

Results:

Doom3 30fps

Half-Life 2 moves between 20 and 30fps (tested on the water bike)

Thats playable enought for me. May have to turn it down for complex scenes though.

heh, well thats why. I get upwards of 60 fps at the settings you use. I got 4,950 in 3dmark 05

Cool!

I think 30 fps is okay to play at though, isnt it? Films run at 25fps dont they?

If it is for you, good. Most people playing first person shooters on multiplayer need at least 50-60 to feel comfortable and at their best.

Even though films run at ~30fps, TV screens have a motion blur which blends the images together, if you made a raw slide show of images on your computer playing at 30fps, It wouldn't look so good.
