Heres the specs on my new comp im going to put together once I get all the parts shipped to me! I order them today :)

$200 : *EDIT*(x2) PC3200 DDR KINGSTON 400mhz 512Mb w/ Copper heat sinks
$97 : Antec 480W Power Supply TRUE480

$-- : Samsung DVD-ROM
$-- : Dell Quiet Keyboard
$-- : Logitech Dual Optical 4 Button Mouse

Grand Total: $1390 + tax and shipping = about $1500

Not bad for a near state of the art computer minus a little ram speed and processor speed.

p.s. all the prices with $-- means I already own them.

*EDIT* I cancelled my order on Samsung becuase I found a better deal on some KINGSTON ram.... I have bought Kingston ram befor and I was very happy with it.

Not bad!

Replace the motherboard with an ASUS P4C800 (i875), the CPU with the 3.2GHz model, and the sound card with an Audigy 2 Platinum eX, and you'd have a system comparable to what I want.

not the best choice of ram, gee i hope that WD HDD doesnt die on you, good luck.

I was going to buy a Audigy 2 but my Santa Cruz is just fine.

The MSI board I bought is not only alot cheaper, but at www.tomshardware.com it rated higher then the ASUS.

And an extra $350 for 200mhz more is not a very good buy in my mind. 3.0ghz = $400-407, and the 3.2 = $700-800. Other wise the 2 top pentium chips are exactly the same.

I know mine ready, Gabe said so himself. (Yes, I'm pathetic enough to ask)

Radeon 9800 (Non Pro)
Athlon XP 2600+
512megs PC 2100 DDR

Ya I kinda agree on the ram because, I have been hearing mixed reviews. Some people I have talked to says "ITS GREAT" while other have said that its not that great. If it doesn't get a constant 400mhz then I will just say they were DOA and send them back.

I have had this 200GB HD for a few months and it has been working great and all harddrives have a risk of crapping out on you. Also I have heard that most of the problems were with the 2mb caches but I could be wrong...

I bought a Hercules Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb for halflife 2

ya one of the reason for buying this new comp was so I could see Hl2 the way it was meant to be seen :)

I went with this:

REAL CASE 3G READY Tooless ATX Mid Tower Case with 400watt Power Supply. Two case fans. (BLACK)
Lite On 52x32x52x CDRW Drive (BLACK)
Samsung 16X DVD Drive (BLACK)
Samsung 1.44MB FLOPPY DRIVE (BLACK)
COOLMAX 80x80x25mm Smart & Quiet Case Fan w/ Double Ball-Bearing. (Making 4 total fans)
Maxtor 80GB 7200RPM Hard Drive 8MB
CORSAIR 1024MB PC3200 DDR RAM
Samsung 19" CRT Monitor (BLACK)
ASUS P4P800 Motherboard for Intel Pentium 4 800Mhz FSB
Intel Pentium 4 / 3.0CGHz 512k socket 478 Hyper Threading Technology 800 MHz FSB
Turtle Beach Voyetra Santa Cruz 6-Speaker DSP Audio Accelerator Sound Card
ATI RADEON 9800 PRO 128MB DVI/TV 8X AGP Video Card
Func Surface 1030 Black Base Mousepad
Logitech BLACK Elite Keyboard
Logitech Mouseman Dual Optical - Twin Optical Sensors
Total - $1750.

Personally, I think I'm set. Sorry Apocalypse for being rude before, today isn't my day.

I spent right around $400 for the mobo/cpu/ram in my sig. They're scheduled to arrive tomorrow afternoon by Fedex. I'm gonna hang on to my Ti4400 for a little longer though. I really can't afford a new video card right now but I should still be fine.

I wouldn't buy a top end P4C processor, just a 2.4C and OC it like mad.

Tomshardware.com compare motherboards with the same chipset. The ASUS P4C800 has the i875 chipset, yours has the i865 chipset.

As for the CPU, you have to compromise between power and price, for example: you could save yet more money on your upgrades by buying the 2.8GHz or 2.6GHz CPU - but would you want to?
I want top of the range, and I'm prepared to pay for it.

Im sorry, but they tested both in i875 & i865 together, and if you look at these charts: http://www6.tomshardware.com/motherboard/20030707/i875p-59.html

The Msi Neo comes out on top 80% of the time.

Even Tomshardware says "
Conclusion: Purchase Decision not Dependent on Chipset ."

check it out here:http://www6.tomshardware.com/motherboard/20030707/i875p-68.html

This test was done like 4 days ago.

Why should it be über just because it costs much and it's much in it? You could have saved your money by investing more in some things more then other things.

And $1750 is mad.

Purchase Decision not Dependent on Chipset...?
It suggests that (atleast at this point in time) there's not much between the i865 and i875 chipsets.

Good for MSI!
But, I'll be sticking with ASUS for now: I like the brand (my last three motherboards have all been ASUS models). I can get the standard model for around £125, which is quite reasonable for a motherboard. Although, I'm not upgrading until closer to HL2's release: ASUS may release a successor to the P4C800 before then (...unlikely?).

He's edited the price. But it's stil much much money.

Tom says this, tom says that. Can't you people use your own mind? Or at least read more then what ONE (idiot) says?
