In the next couple of weeks, I will be what they call, the "Shift Supervisor". What the hell does that mean, you ask?

Well, here it goes. I will get a pay raise from 7.25 per hour to 9.00 per hour. That's a great increase in itself. I will be closing the entire store down by myself once a week. That means I will be in charge of the store, acting like an Assistant, or just a, Manager. Counting all the money, making sure everything is in top shape, things that are needed in a fast food/grocery store environment.

This also means I will follow the usual rules of management. I will get all of the blame, and absolutly none of the credit. I just hope I don't get fired for some silly reason.

Yet another thing about this job is I will be working alot of hours. Right now, while it is in the Winter season, I will be working 6ish hours a day, for 6 days in a row. The schedule will follow like this:

Monday -> Friday *Saturday off*
Sunday -> Saturday *Sunday off*
Monday -> Friday *Weekend off*
Repeat

That doesn't seem so bad at first, right? Well, here is the crazy thing. Picture that schedule, but working 8 hours a day. That means alot of overtime, and alot of working. I already dread the days I spend there, I'm only there for the money in the end. I have to pay bills, right? And there really isn't another job that will offer me $9.00/hr with me just turning 21, and having NO management experience, NO college degree of any sort, I'm still fresh out of High School in a way.

This whole thing is going to be good for me in a way. It will teach me alot. It will hopefully help me to get rid of my Lazyness that I am having. I'll be the first to admit, I'm very lazy. I'll find the easy way out of things, and make all sorts of excuses. I don't like doing that, it's really just how I am. I don't like it, and I'm hoping to get out of it. I really don't think I'm intelligent enough for this job, but I have been there for 4 years now, and I think it's about time I got something out of it. :) Plus at $9.00 per hour, that's a very nice check. As of right now, I'm making right around $400 every other week. Give or take $20, that's my bi-weekly check. At 70 hours a every other week, and 9 dollars an hour, thats $630. Take out, 150 for taxes, that's almost $500 a check. I am hoping by the end of the summer, I will have enough to by my loving RX-7.

So what do you guys think? Am I setting myself up for suicide? Anybody in the Texas/Oklahoma/Arkansas/Missouri area, I work at a Braum's Ice Cream and Dairy store. It has it's Fast Food side, but it's really a pud job..just alot of Corporate idiocy, but what place DOESN'T have that?

Jesus Christ you read fast. And reply faster!

Yeah, true, hygene technician..wtf are those? D:

Woah.. $9 an hour is equivilent to just over £5.10 an hour.. is it just me or does that seem a little too little for a mangerial/supervisory position?

Not meaning to rain on your parade though :)

Grats!

Grats!

I got paid just under that, £5, for my first job when i was 17. Got just under £2000 for 10 weeks work.

Sounds great that you're getting a raise though! And this will give you loads of experience which will look good on your CV's or whatever you have over the pond :p
And you can play in matches on some sundays now!

woah, just noticerd "Quick reply to this message..." wiggy

Yeah, the Assistant managers only get $10-$13 an hour...so I'm right under them :(

Looks good for you mate. your CV thing will be much improved by this promotion. Keep plugging away at it, you never know, you may thrive on the new responsibilites!

And you can play in matches :D

Yea, it's just I think Cyber's over 18 .. feh, I thought £5 was minimum wage over here.. turns out it's £4.25 :O

When I worked back at Fine Foods I was on £5.50 an hour.

Yeah, it's really great Pitz :D here's hoping you rise more and more :)

:thumbs:

I am a supervisor and made $6 starting and got $7 when I was promoted. After a raise I now make $7.50 an hour...oh well its easy and free movies/getting to see them before they come out is badass.

Within about 2 months at my first job, I was promoted and trained from being a regular checker at a grocery store to working in the customer service desk. Unfortunately, I work at a rather small store, and my pay isn't that great compared to other people. I started at $5.75 and got a raise to $6.50. It isn't much, but it puts money in the bank.

Nat Turner, on the other hand, has eliminated everything that you have to pay for. Which is everything.

The job I have has little/no responsibility or work involved and I started at $8.50 barely a year ago and they've given me 3 $.50 raises since then. I'm at $10/hr now and 90% of the time I watch Scrubs or play SNES games :D

You're saving for an RX-7? You've got a 350Z now, yes? You buy such sweet cars working at a grocery store?!

I wouldn't buy a Z car for my life..those things look like monster bugs from the future. I own an RX-7 right now the way it is. I'm buying another so I can give my current one to my roomate..he wants one really bad.... so yeah.

I started out at this job at $5.75, then after 2-3 years, got a raise to 6...ish. Then just about 6 months ago, got anther raise to $7.25.

I was supposed to go to $8..but the District Manager really doesnt' like me for some reason..and he knocked my raise papers from 8 to 7.25..

Awesome, Pitzy!

Also, Amish, where do you work/what do you do?

US Foodservice. I'm an "Evening Computer Operator" Let me give you a breakdown of the average day.

4:00 - Optional clock in time - Do nothing (1hr)
5:00 - Clock in - enter a couple commands into the computer (1min)
5:15 - Enter a few more commands - print a report that other people deal with (2min)
6:00 - Enter in a few more commands to cut off salespeople (1min)
6:15 - Start picking trucks and printing labels (30-60min depending on day)

**If it's Tuesday, I'm done and I can sit around as long as I like getting hours**

8:30 - Invoice trucks as they come back - Anywhere from 1-3 trucks depending on day (10 min per truck)

Now I'm done on any given day and I sit around for hours as long as I feel like

Friday overnights are a bit different with even less work but it's spread out over like 8 hours.

If we only had awesome computers and less restrictive internet :p
