Hey guys..

Well I just got done building my new system, I spent alot of money on it and I just don't think it's performing as it should in all my games...

How good of a system is this?

X-navigator case (keeps everything real cool)
450w Power supply
AMD Athlon 64 +3200 Dual Core Processor
Sapphire Radeon X800 Pro 256mb
2x512mb Corsair Memory (with heatsinks)
Chaintech nForce4 VNF4 Zenith Motherboard
Samsung 80gb Hardrive 7200rpm

Half-Life 2 runs pretty well, it will chop a little every now and then though.

I'm running it on 1280X resolution, I ran it in 1040X.
I have my settings for performance for the card..

I just think my computer should really be cutting through this, I don't think it should even hiccup during gaming.. Is there anything I should do? Anything that might be the problem?

Haha. As good as that PC is, it isn't going to "cut" through HL2. You'll get some awesome performance but you won't "cut" through it. It's a good pc, not an extreme pc but a good, if no great pc.

I would be extremely surprised to see any pc "cut" through HL2, or even not "hiccup" through the entire game. Maybe a Dual 7800gtx setup running one of the newer AMD duallies or an FX-55 and a raptor.

Half Life 2 isn't old enough for most modern hardware to "cut" through it. It's still a fairly new game.

See,

The reason I'm concerned is because my friends system is running perfectly.

He's got the same setup I have, except a Athlon XP 3000. Technically, I have a better setup than he does...

So what the crap is that?

Is his a dual core? If its not, then thats normal because the dual cores really don't bring much to the table in terms of gaming.

Is there even such thing as a 3200+ dual core? If there is I haven't heard about one or seen one.

EDIT: Sorry for the double post, I am stupid.

Make sure you dont have anything running in the background, ctrl + alt + del >> processes. your system idle process (at the bottom) should be 98 - 99 constant when your system is idle. Close any programs in the taskbar you dont need, any firewalls etc. Make sure you have the newest drivers for your system - video card, motherboard etc and that its all adequately cooled. Your system should be running it no problem.
