I will finnaly have enough money to order all the parts for my PC in 2 weeks, but before I do I want to make sure everything is compatible and I am not getting screwed on anything so here is my list of parts(I already have a case):

For starters, The video card is BULK and more than likely doesnt come with fans etc. I would be safe and get the -RETAIL one.

I also recommend the NF7-S v2, it is a VERY stable and VERY overclockable motherboard with the best integrated sound chip you can get (Nvidia Soundstorm)
 
Alright thanks, I didn't know what bulk meant just assumed it was better then OEM hehe.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but do you know if a Biostar - M7NCD - nVIDIA nForce2 Motherboard would have onboard sound?
 
It has Realtek ALC650 6-Channel AC'97 CODEC for onboard audio, if that is what you were asking.
 
I am 99% sure even bulk vidcards have fans etc, it's how they are built after all, and companies who buy the cards in bulk form don't want a half-finished card either. If you want to be 100% sure feel free to get the retail though, it's your money.

Looks like a nice system.
 
Get the NF7-S, it is one of, if not the, best motherboard for the Socket A processors at the moment.

ALL video cards ship with fans.
Only OEM CPUs don't come with the bundled Heatsink/Fan.

The Manufacture puts the fan on the gfx cards before it even leaves. The fan is considered part of the gfx card. lol
Unlike Retail CPUs which they just include the heatsink/fan in the box rather than mounting it on the CPU...of course.

If you have extra dough, by the 74GB Raptor, you're comp will start up in 15 seconds. :) Mine starts up in 30 with a WD normal SATA drive.

EDIT: Btw, it's low shipping because NewEgg kicks every other store's ASS out the window. NewEgg forever.

I hate you. I bought a Pro for $360 around Feb. :(
 
9800 Pro was the High end Card before the XT's days.
Just like the 9700 Pro before it.

I paid 350$ for mine.
But it had a 50$ mail-in rebate and a special mail-in HL2 voucher (1 week special at bestbuy).
At the time, that was a good deal and I considered it 250$ for the card (after mail-in) and 50$ for HL2. lol
That is how I justified it.

I was looking at benchmarks and there is only a %30 increase in performance and I don't thinking paying $200 more is worth it. Also is my RAM the right type for my PC? And everything else?
 
So what am I not getting by buying bulk instead of retail?

Your memory is just fine, but as you know it's not exactly the best performance. What is your total budget?
 
I've got the Sapphire 9800 Pro 128 MB Bulk too, don't worry, you get fans ;)
Just nothing else than the required stuff (card, cables, drivers) so no box or software.

And I can recommend the NF7-s motherboard, I've got it and it's excellent and gets great reviews everywhere. No doubt the best overclocking motherboard atm. The Soundstorm sound is even a little better than a Audigy and only slightly less than an Audigy 2. Truly the best onboard sound system.

Well, infinite haha. I have $400 right now and in 2 weeks I will have $600 and I can borrow $600 from my bro if I need to. I just don't want to wait too long, but I probably should get better RAM, any suggestions?

I've never heard of OCZ, other than that it looks good (and expensive). I'm not an expert on cas latencies though, and they're important :).
 
Don't get that motherboard. And don't get the 2800+. The RAM is fine, just be sure to get 2 sticks of 512. As for the CPU/Motherboard, get a 2500+ and a NF7-s. You can find the CPU for 80 and the mobo for 85 I think on Newegg. The reason I say this is because 2500+ with NF7 can overclock to 3200+ with STOCK cooling. Just what it comes with. Just be sure to get the retail CPU, and NOT the oem cpu since the oem doesn't come with a heatsink/fan.

Any reason for either? Which is faster? I don't care about brand because I know OCZ is really good but just not well known.
 
I just bought my friends comp and were putting it together right now (got everything except power supply from newegg.com) I chose the PC Power And cooling 425 ATX Deluxe PSU and it's shipping from California so it's going to be another 2 days

I think I did pretty well for building my first computer, any thoughts?

alot of this stuff is very good and would reccommend to you Foxtrot if it is compatible (besides the Mobo and ram)
 
Corsair and OCZ are both good.
Pick based on price.
Timings = lower is beter.
2-2-2-5 is the lowest timings possible.
2-3-3-6 is very good.
2.5-3-3-7 is average.
3-4-4-7 is something you would find in a Dell or HP. lol

How much is the board (Asus VIA800) and CPU (AXP2800+) that you plan to build?
For that platform, I would suggest a nForce2 motherboard instead.
I would also suggest a AXP 2700+ 256K L2 Cache 333FSB (2.17GHz) or AXP 3000+ 512K L2 Cache 400FSB (2.1GHz) instead of the 2800+ 512K L2 Cache 333FSB (2.08GHz).
I don't think the 2800+ would give you a big boost over the 2700+ because clock speed is more important than L2 cache. The 3000+ with 400FSB will give you more bandwidth though.
This is with no overclocking in consideration.

btw I have a 2800+ because I got it for a good deal at the time.
 
The xp3000 only has 333 fsb, correct? So should I get the 3200?
 
There is a 3000+ version with 400fsb also.
 
I really think it's wierd when people buy a cpu that has 166 fsb and then they buy pc3500 memory, and they don't oc. I don't get that. I've got an amd 1700+ with pc2700 and i'm running my fsb at 169.
 
Don't get a retail video card. OEM bulk just means it comes in a white box.

What case is all this stuff going in?

You might want to look into geting a seperate heatsink/fan, the retail AMD ones are known for being a tad sucky. By a tad I mean a lot.

I prefer corsair or crucial ram, but OCZ is good, if pricy.
Aside from that, looks great.
 
Sucky for OCing or under a desk cabinet.
Not sucky for standard use.

A aftermarket CPU heatsink/fan is recommended if you want better cooling as they disapaite more watts which will make sure it is under 70C.
 
Under 70c? woah! I couldn't live with anything above 40! I'm at 34 idle 40 load (prime95) with my old Thermalright SK-7 and a TTsmartfan II. This is on my 1800+ at 2.2ghz (2600+)

If those are the temps that retail AMD hsf's are pulling, definitely go with aftermarket.
 
I can't find any 3000 with a FSB about 333 on newegg, should I get the 3200 or stick with the 2800?
 
the increase in performance isn't really worth it IMO. I'd go with the 2800.
