Firstly I have to say that I dont fully understand Abom|nation's behaviour. This is a discussion forum, where people tell their opinions to each other and complain a little. And the fact that threads about the topic keep opening, means that people on these forums do want to talk about it. Please think it over. Thank you.

And now ill tell you my personal opinion. Doom III has a truly good Dynamic lightning system, bump mapping and lots of poligons. Nothing else. Half-Life has lots of new features that hasnt been used or even discovered in other games. Like the physics system, the characters, programmable shaders and everything.

Doom III tried to open a new generation in PC gaming, but went in the wrong direction to achive that. Only 10-15% of gamers have a config that can enjoyably run Doom III-s main features. Without a powerful machine, Doom III becomes a simple FPS. Thats why I said "Doom III is the ultimate game of the current generation, Half-Life 2 is the very first game of the next generation" earlier in another thread.

And on characters: Doom III's highy policount makes characters look like dummies made from plastic, not realistic.

Please don't tell me what to do. You've just seen in the Bugbait thread what happens in these threads, they turn into flamefests. It's not good, so I'm stopping them before they begin.

I'm trying to keep the peace on these forums, and people have a go at me. How lovely... why the hell do I bother?

Either way, I'm doing what I think's best, and if you have a problem with it, take it to PMs with me.

Because some people like what you do. I like having well regulated forums.

Anyone else?

These forums are surprisingly free of clutter and stuff considering there's a new post every minute or so.

There will always be people complaining, you know that :) Personally, I haven't seen a thread that has been closed without good reason. A few examples would be nice if there are any.

All right, you decide.

Me.

I agree. The threads that have been closed have had good reason to be.

You might as well make a DIII vs HL2 sticky thread and save yourself the aggravation. Let the people who want to fight over the merits of two unreleased games in their own little corner and keep it away from the rest of us.

That could be a good idea, I'll discuss it with everyone once these stupid forum errors are dealt with.

Very good idea indeed, but what if a whole forum named "Complaining" is made?

A rants and raves forum might be good, but it would still need to be moderated.

Why is it necessary to have constant commentary on how this board is being run. I think the mods are doing a fine job.

The locking threads are somehow okay, but deleting posts that are on topic, yet sarcastic, like in the 'what weapons would to see in HL2' thread, I posted "Alyx's dildo" to bring some laughs, and my post got deleted, woo.
Now that is plain annoying, and abusive.

I don't see any rule on this forum that says "DONT SAY DILDO ITS A BAD WORD MMMKAY?"

So yes, as someone said, power trip.

Like it was relevant to the topic, jeeze. Not to mention that it had been mentioned many, many times before. You were just trying to beat the funny out of a dead horse, plus I found it inappropriate.

Plus if you want me to be really specific about it, it technically falls under this category in the rules:

"Sexually Oriented Material

Please remember that this forum is a public forum. There are 12 year olds here just as there are 50 year olds. Nudity and porn is prohibited for obvious reasons."

That proof enough for you?

I think the forums are being run fine, but rather than threads being locked they should be deleted. :cheese:

ha ha, dont you just love a mod who knows what hes going on about, and can always beat people down! :D
I personally have no problem with threads closing, damn flame wars get so boring so quickly.

these forums are dead.

btw doom III actually uses extremely low polycounts, but makes up for it with high res textures and dynamic lighting.

i don't like it so much.

Not really. Models are stored in a low policount version, the engine calculates the high poli-count models on the fly.

Abom, under that "Sexually Oriented Material" part it specifically states that nudity and porn are prohibited. The mention of a dildo is not nudity or pornography, as far as I can remember, much like saying "I saw someone's boob yesterday" isn't nudity or porn. I like the way you're doing your job for the most part, but deleting a post like :>~'s dildo comment is no reason to get into deep technicalities. Sure it was beating a dead horse, but he was just trying to get a few laughs.

BTW, the Rants And Raves forum idea is really great, but what sort of moderation are you proposing? If it's just language and offensive content moderation, that would do fine, but if you mean deleting and closing "off-topic" threads and deleting "meaningless" posts, that would negate the entire reason for the RaR forum being there.

The pornography and nutidy was just an example of what not to post, something sexually-orientated like a dildo would also fall under that category. Besides, it wasn't on that basis that I deleted the post anyway, but ~:> seemed to want another reason for why I did, so I gave it.

Abom|nation, the plethora of threads you've closed down today were absolutely and 100% justified - I'm with you all the way. Sometimes you seem lock-happy but whatever.
My only gripe is that you closed the "Is Alyx hot" thread before I could get some decent napalm in the door (Oh how I wanted to burn people - name no names).
On another, entirely unrelated note, PainLord - how dare you have a Spongebob avatar! Damn you to Hell. And then some. I've had mine longer. So nurr. ;) :p

Ah whatever, it's just annoying finding out your post got deleted only for a not so offensive word. meh.

In my opinion, Abom|nation has done a good work. Now I dont have to go through 20 spam-threads full of crap and whining everytime I want to catch up with these forums. Back then I had and it sucked bigtime. Everyone just spamming with informative 'lol' messages, flaming each other, failing to follow topic etc. Now its much better and I can catch relevant information and (semi)intelligent threads quick.

Abom is doing stirling work in the face of a torrent of drivel and abuse from many directions. If everyone will just have a bit of consideration for others and use a bit of common sense things will be so much more pleasant around here and his work will become much less noticable.

The problem isn't abom's actions, they are the sympton not the cause.

What abom is trying to say is...

There is a search button!

so... mind as well use it

Bing! 10 points to you, sir :)

And thanks for all the nice comments guys, I am trying my best to keep the forums in a normal state!

Im a firm believer in freedom of speech, let people open threads about what ever they want- thats the whole point of a forum. Also it takes more effort to type a reply to some one about using the search function than it does to be nice and answer their questions.

Abomination is doing exactly the same level of job I would be doing if I was the moderator. He's quick at moving topics, quick at putting a hault to flame wars or spammeh topics. He does a fantastic job.

Rules, regulations and management are in place everywhere for a reason, and a good reason at that. If this board was run like the Steam forums it'd be an awful place. The people there are so unhelpful, unfriendly and it's moderated really badly. There are unfriendly (not many, and I'm naming no names... I can't actually think of any) people here and there are some unhelpful people here in certain situations. In fact almost every forum member here that visits regularly get annoyed at those questions that are commonly asked, and that can easily be found via the search function, but at least the majority of us have got it to a stage where we aren't nasty to people since Munro requested it a few weeks ago.

All in all, what I'm trying to say is the staff here do a good job and I think this forum has one of the best atmospheres for being friendly and communal than any other that I've seen. The general maturity of people here, even the young ones (jeez, I'm only 17) have a certain maturity about themselves and it's nice :)

Awww now let's have a group huuuug :D

As someone who runs a bunch of different forums, it's important to state that the whole freedom of speech thing is great for the US. This however isn't the US, it's private property, owned by the people who run this board. Just like any non-governmental board, freedom of speech is a luxury here, not a right. When posting, it's important that users remember that this board is a luxury item, and respect it as such. This isn't a flame against anyone, just something that should be in the back of all people's minds when they post.

Hey Chris_D, whenever I read one of your posts, I always see the G man talking lol, all thanks to your picture:p

sorry thats been on my mind for ages.

If you dont like the way the forums are run, then leave, were not forcing you to stay. You have a freedom of choice, exercise it.

i agree with what Chris has stated and if i were to ever be a mod, then i'd like to follow Abomination's actions as a mod.

as for the removal/deletion of the dildo comment.. u are very naive if u think kids do not visit these forums.. and some things are just not appropriate, especially in a forum as public as this one..

admins/mods have been given powers to keep the peace and order.. and they need to use discretion of what is right, wrong and in-appropriate (Abomination did that) now if theres a problem, pm him.. its stupid to be starting threads about such things..
