My Ping!?

steams been reletivly good to me for sometime, i use to play dod with 100ping, but now i cant play cs dod nor ns! on dod my ping is about 250 then it just to 400, ns just stays at about 400-600 and cs is somewhat playable. but it jumps up to about 300 at times. wtf! i play ns 2 last night and it ran fine but when i try playing something on steam my ping sucks

EDIT: oh and for some wierd reason suddenly my dll crap for ns3 does not match the servers

Is steam updating still? This tends to be a common issue. Valve should make Steam stop updating if your joining a multiplayer game imo.

i have nothing running in the background, maybe ill just leave steam on over night. might work out something

Why?, I had the same issue, the update reset my rates from 7500 to 1500.. the result was 130+ ping (+100 gain from normal, average ping) and alot of spiking.

Try changing your rate through the console (ie. rate 7500)

as for your NS problem you just need to update it, The latest version of NS is in beta. If you havent updated to the latest version, it will say your map is different from the servers. I had the same problem. Just head of it their site (natural-selection.org) and find out what versions you are missing.

Do what Shuzer said, and make sure the settings in Steam options > connection are also ok.

Just to make sure you should try and download www.lavasoft.de < AdAware, great program for removing spyware.

dude steam = crap!!! its the worse program ever made... actually it sucks so much i consider it a virus since it allreaddy ate my Email my Cd-key it cost me a lot of my time... basicly it sucks balls

I have the same problem! Used to get excellent fluid games of all the Mods going on countless servers. Now my ping's through the roof and I can't play anything!

I've never had any issues with Steam, although a few of my friends have. Are you running a firewall? The update might be treated as suspect which on some brands could cause lag.
