My theory on Valve's "plan"

Gabe isnt stupid to make his PW 'gaben' so obviously he made it that on purpose.

Gabe asks someone to post that gold date / Gabe knows someone will eventually find out the PW and its a coincidence that they post about the 'gold' stuff

As soon as its posted, it creates hype.

Going smoothly along Valve's plan, since the IP is not from Valve, people eventually come out with a result of "this is a hoax"

Valve refuses to answer any emails because they are planning something big.

The 2nd test appears. It has 1 or 2 purposes: To distract the community while they prepare for the 'big' event / Because at the end of the test, the community finds something out - as soon as they found out, Valve lets the fans know about their 'big' event.

The 'big' event occurs, the fans are shocked and surprised.

The I.P. address was from a open web proxy, running off some poor guy's jimi hendrix merchendise website. So anyone could have done it, they'll have a hard time tracking it. It could have been gabe posting through that proxy no-one knows.

Your silly theory is really flawed in my humble opinion. Personally, I think gabe really was silly enough that have gaben as a password, if I remember correctly, the source code was stolen because the hackers sent a trojan that exploited an outlook express hack. I mean, outlook express for ****s sake, that's just stoopid!

I think it's just a coincidence the fake gold date was posted, and the whole first test, second test is just a distraction so valve can buy some time to finish the game.

I myself don't use passwords that are hard to remember, I always use my name. Why? Because I don't care if someone hacks my account and makes stupid posts. And what's the probability on that anyway? I should have pretty bad luck if my account from 20,000 other accounts got hacked. Gabe is the boss of a leading games company, but he's still a human.

I believe we are going to see relatively the same strategy that was used for Doom 3. Lots of people speculate that Half-Life 2 will have a review in the upcoming PC Gamer right? The issue will arrive for subscribers roughly around Sept 15 ish right? They will annouce the game has gone gold as these issues begin to arrive in peoples mailbox. The release date will then be close to the same date as the issue appears on Magazine racks. Roughly Sept 30 , Oct 1 ish. Just my theory, but it's a common strategy for big name games and it worked fine and dandy for Doom.

First off yes. He is dumb enough to make his pass 'gaben'. Another Valve employee also had their name as their password. (check that out on Csnation. It's there trust me. HE (cliffe I beleive) had his account hijacked too.

Second, it's not only un-professional but downrite sadistic to fake a gold date. That's if in the slightes ray of poorly thought out hope that this is another hype machine.

Sorry to destroy your idol worship but he's no god among men. He's an average guy who works late and comes home to the family. So yes he has the ability to make a stupid mistake.

Your point is alittle far fetched. I know where your coming from though, i do agree valve has something big planned, they aren't talking much....some weird conspiracy shit is going on, i take it we are going to hear/see some weird shit in the next 2wks.
