I Bought Doom 3 Little over a week ago, and I immediately was amazed by the graphics, the sounds - and had a great time playing it. But, while it is a huge leap in terms of graphics - after a few hours I found myself getting very tired of the same old gameplay.
Quite simply, theres not much too it - Simply shooting one thing after another, in corridor after corridor, sometimes coming to room which is used to hold a power generator or somesuch. To be frank, I am truly disappointed with it - id could have done much better things with it - maybe a more developed story as opposed to simply getting bigger guns and facing stronger enemies (admittedly I actually haven't got to "hell" yet). They could of maybe taken the game to a completely different place - or better yet, places? Maybe in an interesting twist?
I found most of the weapons to be pretty unsatisfying - I honestly preferred the old Doom 2 weapons (well, at the time of course
) - they don't sound right.
Obviously the graphics are just sublime, and this is probably the most polished I have ever played in my life.
But still, I can honestly say that i preferred Half-Life by a mile in comparison - The game had alot more substance too it - many twists and turns along the way - alot of variation - from the locations to the weapons - something Doom 3 really could of done with.
All I can say is think long and hard before shelling out that 30 quid for it - as it may just disappoint you like it did me.
Just my two pents.
