HOL CRAP! You're not joking when you say the tron glow mod makes it look better! Since when did this exist??

It basically turns the game into a hdr game, Quad pasted the tron glow code into his badass Half-Life mod.. Lots of shiny effects, glow and blur and stuff, other people have no problem with it but my FPS is forced down to 20 for some reason.

I don't think the Dynamic Glow effects are HDR by the way. You're gonna get people excited about it thinking it's HDR when it's not.

Ok, moved to hardware/software.

Technically a GF FX 5200 supports it, but you will have extreamly poor performance.

And no, that card won't support SM3.0 (the far cry 1.3 stuff)

and no, a GF4 does not support either.

No sir. HL2 is VERY shader intensive. GeForce FX cards have crap shader performance.. thus, poor performance! FX5200 will not run the game at acceptable framerates in DX9. Mark my words.

Unless they run it in...GASP...DX8 mode. Which means no HDR.

Actually, I thought they said the 5200 series would use the DX8 path by default since it is so slow with DX9.

It DOES support it, technically. But since performance and playability have to be factored in, it will not.

I don't think so. Any card that fully supports DX9.0 should have the ability to render HDR, 5200FX included. Ablbeit, that kind or any other card in that catagory won't run HDR in HL2 at playable framerates.

but as it's stated above, it's said that the default renderer for 5200FX will be DX8.0-8.1, I'd say this'd be the same for right up to the 5800FX range.

Thats not to say you won't be able to turn everything thats DX9 on -on your 5200, you'll be able to whack everything on full detail and drool at the beautiful artwork rendering tis true, but hear is the BUT, movement will be a large problem at 5-15 fps!
