My view on the rumor of delay.

i forgot to mention.. that if HL2 is delayed by Steam, or something related to Steam (servers? bandwidth?) i don't think it will cause HL2 to be delayed into next year.. i mean that would be absurd..

maybe a delay into middle of October or November is still more accurate then a Feb. 2004 rumor.. but seriously, a Steam caused delay could take HL2 into next year? nahhhhh.. thats just wrong.

im not convinced that Steam will be ready by September 30th.. for whatever reason, just go look at the Steam status page, 4 servers have been down regularly.. and 4 other servers that are online are pretty much at capacity.. and this is before the HL2 release..
..

At the very least, Valve is getting some more content servers lined up. They still have 2 weeks but we'll have to wait and see.

To be fair, the correct spelling was already taken, and is currently unavailable. To anyone. :dozey:

Ah.

Wait, when they take down the WON servers will they just use them for more Steam servers?

Uhh... Maybe you could check the news section of the site you are currently on? Just a suggestion.

i think vivendi would pressure valve into finishing and releasing wether steam is ready or not because they'll get more money that way. valve is gonna make more money off of every steam purchase, so of course they want steam purchases to be as high as possible...

however, i think they'd rather keep their reputation and release when they said they would....hell has there even been confirmation that valve is getting *all* the money from steam sales? i wonder if vivendi doesn't get a cut of that as well (due to some contract detail)?

Don't expect it on the 30th, It aint gonna happen... I would expect an announcement this week for sure though, I can't imagine them announeing the delay the week of release, that would be insulting to their customers..

 This is exactly why it won't come out more than 1-2 weeks after the 30th: in 20 minutes, it'll be only two weeks away! Not giving any warning about a significant delay or possilbe delay by now would make Valve real horse's asses, especially with the last 'still on' confirmation just over a week ago (what day was that?).

Actually, I think Valve has the upper hand in its publisher deal because they had the capital and sure-thing success to get the publisher of their choice or just publish it themselves (like Lucas with FOX).

Remember that the release date is up to Valve.

Vivendi can try and pressure Valve to make a dumb move like release HL2 before Steam is ready.. wanna know why its a dumb move? because its the most anticipated game in years and HL2 will still need Steam to authenticate MP gamers and such.. yes i realize that most of the users in this forum and many other HL2 forums will probably want to complete SP before they touch MP.. but theres also another breed of gamers out there who really only care about MP.. and for that, Valve have stated that Steam will be required.. can u imagine 50,000 users trying to access HL2 MP only to be aggrivated by Steam not working? its probably bound to happen anyway, but at least Valve should/will make a very honest and sincere effort to up the bandwidth and server capacity for such a release.

Valve's reputation is only as good as their last release... its the same old saying "what have u done for me lately?"

if Valve doesn't make the September 30th release, u have angry fans, if Valve makes the 30th release but doesn't do a good job with preparing for demands on the Steam system, then guess what? u have angry fans..

seriously.. release day for Valve is gonna be a tough day either way, its what they do from now until that day that determines how bad that day may be..
