I have validated my steam files, uninstalled my videocard drivers, and redownloaded the latest ones, i made sure i have directX 9.0c, and i also completely uninstalled steam along with every game, and then redownloaded them, ive tried lower settings cuz i run mine at 1280x1024, AA6x, AF16x,with all the other setings on high, i lowered them and still the same thing, just not as pretty. My system Specs are in my sig if you need to know them. Please someone help me out, its pissing me off that ive tried all i know how to do and it isnt going away. Thx

Links are broken - but does the water turn yellow or something around the edges? I have that problem after I upgraded to my 6600, I think it's just drivers. Only happens in the SP campaign, though.

umm thats how the water is suppose to look if u turn on reflect all it will look better

reflect all is on, did u even look at the pictures? picture A is all clear near the shore, picture B is all black near the shore, thats not how it is suppose to look.

You said you have DX9c, but try typing in mat_dxlevel 90.

was the water once the way it was supposed to be?
and please list all the levels u have ur settings at right now

My waters fugly too :(

Now that I think of it, it's always been like that. I just never noticed that it used to look a different way.

read my entire first post, all of it, and u will see my settings

just tried typing "mat_dxlevel 90" and it was already at that setting. and i think this is a problem, cuz it once worked fine, now its acting up, dont know what i did, if i did anything at all even.

I've got a 6600GT, if you still have the problems, I'll check it out myself, haven't played HL2 in sometime, and I haven't played with my 6600

I have the exact same problem. Can't find any solution :(
And it looks terrible in-game, believe me...

loaded up waterhazard and noticed this also. was not like that before, it looks ugly. SORT IT VALVE!!!!

Just took a screenshot of my HL2 water with a 6800GT version 77.30 drivers and DX9c installed. /me shrugs
I bet it's a Driver issue. I never go out and download the newest drivers because with all the fixes there is usually stuff that breaks. So unless I have a reason to DL a driver, I don't. Try a driver that is a couple versions back.

I just loaded up the same map, I have the same problem too. It's weird and really ugly.

so if its a driver issue, what do i do? just wait till the new driver comes and pray they fixed it? or maybe use old drivers since i know they worked? i need guidance!

you never showed your waters edges in your screen. its the shore line that looks crap, apart from that my water looks fine.

I never update my drivers because I never get problems. And the only gfx cards problems I got were after I do install them.

Mine are fine, using a 6600. Not sure what happened to yours...mine very delicately fade out, instead of your just totally black type-of thing.

So what do i do to sort it? roll back my driver?
Just went bck to my old 5-6 xp driver and that did the trick.

I tried going back to the 5.6 catalyst driver also, and the water is fine, so those of u with the same problem as me, try that. thx for alll ur help guys.

Does anyone know if Catalyst 5.8 fixes this? I have the same problem with 5.7.
EDIT: Apparently not...

I just tried the 5.8 drivers and its still got the problem, so i went back to the 5.6 again.

Okay...

This is what it looks like to me... I believe that I have the same problem on my computer, but I'm not on it at the time to check... I think that the deal is that the water edges fade out by use of an alpha texture, black being transparent. When you see the fade to black on the outsides of the water, that's normally supposed to be a smooth transition to clear-ness.

Somewhere along the line, either due to an update thru steam, or a driver update (more probable) some setting has been changed as to how this graphic runs.

That does not mean that I know how to fix it, but perhaps someone else has another idea...? Someone from valve wanna help out? hah...
