Ok. What does SDK stand for and what will exactly be in it? Would i be able to create something and actually play it? Why are Mod teams so excited over it?

Software Development Kit: Contains the raw c++ files used to build the game... Meaning we can edit EVERYTHING.
The map editor will probably be separate though.

So a MOD team that knows c++ very well can get a really good head start with the SDK. He can do everything EXCEPT create maps?

Doesn't the Orginal Half Life SDK come with Hammer?

This change log covers changes and additions made to the Half-Life SDK, starting from version 2.2.

version 2.3 - Oct 03 2002

* Updated single-player and multiplayer source
- Ricochet source (w/multi-serve technology)
- New spectator features included with the 1.1.1.0 release
- New interface
- First-person mode
- Bug Fixes
* Updated server protocol information
* Valve Hammer Editor v3.4 (installer, not source)
* Missing cinematic files from v2.2 release

yes, but the HL2 SDK is coming out before the game, therefore if they included hammer they would be giving away a bunch of info regarding all the monsters, weapons, etc..etc, so they most likely won't include hammer when they first release it, but maybe when they get to version 2.3 years and years after HL2 has been released they will.. *shrug*

But it will be a stripped down hammer then, without textures and the workshop models. I dont beleive they would make such a stupid mistake to take away all surprise before the game is even released.

Hammer will be included, come on face it, some people are just too stupid to get the maps to work, or they "cbf" doing it, so not many people will bother with it, me on the other hand lub making maps and want to start doing it asap. and how will MOD makers get there MODs out like 1 - 2 weeks after HL2 is released. maybe with 1 map, 2 even, if they try, but im hoping for the best :D

Yeah, well you are right, I just remembered something: All models and all textures are in HL2, not the SDK or the editor, stupid me. So we will get... Uhm... A stripped down hammer without the models and textures :)

It would be the same SDK you would get if you bought a liscense of the engine to build your own game, so I dont think they would want HL2 content in every game they liscense the engine to...

"The composition of the SDK has not been fully decided yet, but we plan on releasing tools and resources for all areas of modding."

Also, half of the official SDK FAQ on VERC is about the new Hammer, and all HL1 SDK-s have been released with Worldcraft/Hammer. I dont know a reason on why it wouldnt be in.

i am gonna make a really gr8 sp level i have had in mind and planned on paper for hl2.

but when i have the map editor i will learn like the keys first then start hehe

The code will provide you with the names and functions of all the monsters too.

The new hammer will be very similar to previous (like 3.4) Hammers. If you can handle Hammer 3.4, then you shouldnt have any problem with the new one.

EDIT: acan -> can
