I'm new here, but not to Half-Life. I've been playing the original since `99 and didn't waste a minute purchasing Opposing Force when it came out (though Blue Shift didn't sit in my collection until `02...). I have no idea how to edit or create a single damned thing in any of the games, unless it's the cheapy console creating commands, which allow me to make many a grunt during the Osprey air assault portion of Surface Tension. All attempts to create maps, characters, or anything of the like have resulted in...unforeseen consequences for my computer. I do particularly enjoy Half-Life 2 and can't seem to get myself to go back to the late-90's graphics of HL now that I've seen the other side. No, I don't play Counter-Strike, much less any games online mostly due to the disasterous effects it has had on my computer in the past. This, no doubt, explains why I do not enjoy having to download stuff from Steam to play Half-Life 2 or any other future VALVe game (not to mention the fact I have a terribly slow dial-up Internet, which causes installed Half-Life 2 to take upwards of 4 hours! :x ).

Beyond that, I love Half-Life, but love making fun/jokes about it even more! My favorite character of all time is Walter Bennett and I hate the crazy-Mexican-jumping zombies in Ravenholm (for that matter, I hate that entire town...nightmares!). I also like to write stories and am currently working on a story about a platoon of Marines who were among the first into Black Mesa. The story will give my idea of who the 'BlackOps' are and for whom they work.

Oh, yeah, in case you're wondering, I AM the Gman!

...or at least I was.

Hello and welcome to the forums!! :D

Here's a tip: Don't make a thread about reaching your 1000th post unless you want your post count reset. Use the search button before making a new thread and remember that there's an edit button. Obey the rules and listen to the moderators. That's about it, enjoy your stay here!

It's not spam, I'm simply telling all the new members what will happen if you make a thread about your post count. Would you rather have me say "Hello and welcome" like everybody else?

Greetings, and welcome to our humble abode...

Tip : Don't feed the forumites.

Well that's hardly an original sentiment either, so no.

Try not posting in every newbie central thread for once.

Hmm...I didn't imagine my welcome thread would become a mini battlefield... :E Hurray for me! :D

 How did you know?! :naughty:

No worries, though, if I decide to talk about my post count, I'll do it like Cato the Elder did when he wanted to speak about the destruction of Carthage: at the end of everything I say/post.

By the way, who are the Moderators and Admin (that way I know for whom to watch)?

Someone needs to ban this guy.

Anyhoo welcome to Las Vegas.

Ok, Welcome to the Democratic People's Republic of HL2.net. :D
I had dial-up internet too so I know how hellish it is.

Now, normally I would spew forth some HL2.net propaganda but I'm too tired. Sorry.

Bvasgm, like you really care about other members getting their post count reset. You are just being a drama queen.

Seriously xLostx, what the hell is your problem?

Where in there do you see me complaining about my post count? I never even say that my post count was reset. I just say don't do it. I then go on to give him some general advice that will keep him from getting flamed by you guys or warned by the mods. How does being helpful make me a drama queen?

Perhaps the newbie should be the mediator...?

Now, now, guys, this is my house--err, thread. If you can't play nice, all of you will have to go to the corner (or get banned when a moderator sees the back-and-forth). Oh, jeez, great, the Admin will probably close this thread because of this...misbehaviour...

Anyhow.

Yay! DPR of HL2.N! :bounce:

By the way, 15357, did your offline Steam account work perfectly for a few days and then, OUT OF NOWHERE, stop working, too? Or is this just normal? :frown: It's just, I hate having to go online to play a game I purchased. I mean, okay, I can deal with the initial 4+ hours for installation, but why every so often as well?! I mean, it's not like the game should know there are any updates available, I don't take that particular computer online unless I have to (the last time being when I reinstalled HL2 the other day)! Any help, new friend?

Well, with dial-up, yes. but not since I upgraded to VDSL 100mbps.

Steam sucks. Constant upgrades and sudden log-offs. I don't play much Steam-required games anymore.

If your experiences have been like mine, I do not blame you. In fact, the only games I do play that are Steam-related are HL2 and HL:Source, and even with Steam, Half-Life:Source doesn't work correctly! :rolling:
