Name a SINGLE musician you love...

Mindless Self Indulgence

Alternative/Punk/Electronica

Recommended song : Pretty much all of them

Jimmy Urine's voice is one of of the most dynamic I've ever heard.

@TheBleeding - Dead Kennedys are awesome. I was considering posting them, but you beat me to it.

@Sprafa, Ennui - Boards of Canada and Dywavan Cowboy are fusking incredible. I don't know what else to say.

The White Stripes! And I can't just pick one song, so eff you!

John Petrucci - for his solo album Suspended Animation

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

All the songs are just... amazing.

He has had some problems. He brought heroin addiction on himself, but alcoholism is a disease, and dealing with both of those at the same time and coming out clean of them is impressive. We almost didn't get With Teeth or any more NIN... Trent nearly died of an overdose a few years ago.

Of course. Remember the first PM you sent me? ;)

You fail at life.

Maxi Jazz ... the lyrics he comes out with in tunes like 'insomnia' and 'my culture' are just inspired.

I was just about to add this! :D

I finally got the CD yesterday and it blew me away. John never fails to impress me. Why? Because he is the most creative and original guitarist on the planet. He incorporates every single musical style in his music, not to mention he's probably the most technical guitarist of all time. :)

At the mo, Muse. Been listening to the new album more and loving it... check out Invincible, current fav. Or Supermassive Black Hole, their current single (bit different from their other stuff, but still cool... funky as). As for older stuff - Bliss and Space Dementia.

I was kind of hoping the whole a album would be a bit more like Supermassive Black Hole, I liked the change in direction for that song quite a bit. :(

And David Gilmour. The noises and atmospheres he creates in his songs are amazing, hearing him play any solo, improvised or otherwise, is just beautiful.

love his work :)

Les Claypool (Primus)

The mans a genius. Enough said. The fact that he can play a complicated bassline like Tommy the Cat whilst singing is impressive alone. Plus the fact that what he writes and plays is actually original, something alot of bands today have trouble doing. And he doesn't overuse any of his techniques unlike all the virtuosio (sp?) bass acts like .. erm, I've forgot his name now, but the bassist that played with Vai or Satriani. (I get them mixed up because they are so boringly alike) But yeah, Claypool wins.

I believe Les was friends with Hammett when they were younger. I've heard him play Master of Puppets on bass, which was awesome.

Yeah, Les auditioned for Metallica at one point, I think after Cliff's death. Most likely then anyway, but they thought his style didn't suit the band. But hey, we might not of got Primus if Les was part of Metallica instead of Jason, and who knows what Metallica would of sounded like with Les..

Yeah, their MoP cover is awesome, albiet short. I used that for my GCSE exam music peice. Sounded sweet.

Indeed--fuggin beautiful piece of work that.

The rest of the Woodstock '94 footage is also awesome.

Enya - Deora ar mo Chroi

She just has such a majestic voice.

Right now ill post 3 classic rock, 3 modern

Classic Rock
Ian Anderson
Jimmy Page
Jimi Hendrix

Modern
Tom Morello
Maynard Keenan
Bruce Dickinson

Trent Reznor

because he does all the music in his studio and can play every instrument (except the drums) and has gone through much hardship to bring almost 20 years of music to his fans.

He can drum pretty well actually, IIRC the drumming in piggy is done by him.

Blah, single musician.

Herman Li from Dragonforce.

I could never play that fast :(

I would say Explosions in the Sky but it's a single musician and you can't just pick one person out of Explosions in the Sky (they're playing like 3 different tunes at the same time but they weave together so wonderfully that they're inseparable -- imposible to choose just one).

So... Jonsi from Sigur Ros. Amazing. I can listen to Sigur Ros over and over again and it just gets better, and his voice is absolutely beautiful. He also plays his guitar with a (cello?) bow.... awesomeness.

Coming in second would be Efrim from Godspeed You! Black Emperor / A Silver Mt Zion. I'll admit he sings in a slightly.. annoying voice, but once you listen to God Bless Our Dead Marines all the way through and every other Silver Mt Zion song about 10 times through, it's so beautiful and so painfully human. I seriously hated it the first time I heard it... as in, "What the heck is this crap. Ouch, my ears..." but after a while you start to love it. Besides, perfect voices are... boring. Also, his lyrics are just haunting. Look up the monologue from Dead Flag Blues for proof of that. That song could probably give people apocalyptic nightmares.

So... post-rock. It's great. :D

Vic Ruggiero, of The Slackers. The best band in the world, so I chose their main vocalist and keyboardist. A song by them... Maybe Keep him Away From Me. Or maybe Set the Girl Free. Or the Fried Chicken song. Or Mountainside. Or... or... or...

I was appaled to listen to King of Carrot Flower. Godamn, it's an amazing song.

How does that make sense?

Anyway, my vote goes for Stephen Jenkins, lead singer of Third Eye Blind. He is the most talented lyrical mastermind of our time. This is because he's not a goth alcoholic who sings about his dead mother or high school psychology terms. He was valedictorian at Berkeley with a degree in literature. On top of that, he was raised in a creative and artistic environment. He's too awesome for his own good.

TV on the Radio is also my favorite band at the moment. King Eternal and Playhouses tie for my favorite song.

Paris Hilton, she's such an artist.....wait did I say artist? I meant prostitute...

I'm also really feeling Amon Tobin right now. Bricolage ftw.
