Need a break from the working, walking, and standing required by the demanding and stressful life you lead?

Well, pack your bags for Houston because NASA wants to pay you $17,000 to stay in bed for 90 straight days.

The bed-rest experiment, to take place in the Human Test Subject Facility of Johnson Space Center, is designed to allow scientists to study some of the effects of microgravity on the human body.
This could be my dream job. :O

That's not a small amount of money. If I were allowed a laptop and internet connection, I suppose I might do it. But it sounds pretty awful.

Thats only half that in superior British muniez, plus as Sulk says, that could be pretty crap, 90 days in a bed with nothing to do but be studied and scrutinized 24/7.

Yes this sounds awful and would probably drive me insane, but I signed up anyways. My only big worry would be A) school and B) the complete lack of exercise. But I guess for 17,000 bucks I can be a couch potato for 3 months :D.

Yeah, you will pratically have no muscle mass; they already did experiments like this before.

They will most likely bring you into a therapy sort of thing to get all the muscle back and everything, but I guarentee getting up to go to the bathroom will feel nearly impossible to do at the end.

As Sulkdodds said, if there is an internet connection I'd do it. Also they have to leave there room behind the glass when I do certain..."things".

3 Months of ****ing your body up - 17k
Cost of Recovery (Including Food, Exercise, Medicine > 17k?

Think Carefully dude. Unless they are actually allowing you to do something productive during that time. I think this is more for random American rednecks with no jobs and have the American dream of making it big, working in NASA. Whatever..

i'd get lonely :(

I'd do it if i could have gf there too, or a guy who wouldn't mind experimenting LOL~

I probably wouldn't risk becoming a fat mess actually, if you have to stay in bed all the time.

we had a similar job offer in our local hospital some months ago. somebody did apply and survived.

i believe it was funded by nasa too.

I assume they'll be using bedpans or some fancy astronaut tubes-thing.

I read the thread title and thought it had something to do with sex and faking an orgasm....

I bet they are planing for some long distance space travels. Thats what the tests are for.

Wonder if I can get back-payments for the last... 22 years. A-haw haw.

Looks "easy", but it's horrible D:
Not doing anything at all for 3 months? They can pay me anything, I wouldn't do it.

Man, no way would I do that, I would probably go insane after a few days.

I would do it because I don't have a job or anything to do right now, I like to read, and I think it would help fix the lower back problems I have.

Yeah, let's get rid of all your muscle mass. That will teach that naughty lower back!

I was thinking more along the lines of removing the constant day to day stress that leads to herniated discs. Most of the therapy involves taking the weight off of your spine for short periods of time during the day. Doing it all day for 3 months would definitely give my discs time to heal themselves.

They are not offering enough money. Simply too many bad side effects from being in a bed that long.

How about some of that internet moneh they have?

If they pay for the therapy and the time it takes to get you off your feet, I think I'd do it. I'd get so much done. And people would come to visit me and I'd feel like Oscar Wilde on his deathbed or something.

EDIT: argh, it'd still be horrible D:

That would be about 1.75 times more money than I make currently. That would not be worth it.

No one but a homeless person should take this offer.

**** that.

I hate staying in bed.

Bugger that, it's like torture....torture you get paid $17,000 for.

They'd probably give you $17,000 worth of NASA tokens or something

After 3 months: "Congratulations! Here is your $17,000. Now about the rent: it comes down to about... 16,999. Heh, look at that. You made money by just lying here!"
