In a recent blog post, Unknown World's Charlie Cleveland revealed that an alpha version of Natural Selection 2 will be released through Steam on Monday, July 26th. This is not an open invitation. Only those who've preordered the Special Edition of the game will have the access to participate; so, if you'd like to play the alpha then head to this page and make the purchase. But, act fast because both the Special Edition and alpha offerings will end July 26th.

More information can be read on NS2's official blog.

Where's the damn steam integration?!
Half the first one's audience is there because of steam!
*facepalm at lack of steam announcement or pre-order*

What are you talking about? The engine test was using Steam as well and used its patching system.

That's why it's special.

And that's the only complaint you've got?

Everybody has that complaint, even the flamehaus people who complain a lot. I have been waiting for them to do it and I think they said they could make Steam redeem the cd-key like Prey. NS was the only game that could pry me away from CS back in the day and that was before BF2. *Nevermind:
If I pre-order NS2, can I play on Steam?
Yes! NS2 requires Steam actually. If you pre-order, we'll send you a Steam key which you can enter which will add NS2 to your games list.

**Confirmed, it does work with the redeem feature of Steam: http://www.naturalselection2.com/download

It's been like that since the engine test. That's why I didn't follow.

Well they have always been on the fence on something playable. The trailer was kick-ass and everybody thought it was CGI but it's not. Everybody needed a playable build though and nobody was paying a penny for something that wasn't even at a playable point yet. Well not it's playable. I created an official hl2.net NS2 group here: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/hl2netns2

Hard to believe that NS2 is actually going to happen, I bet once it's listed on Steam and people will be able to buy it from there, that their sales will sky rocket.

I remember the rumors from a while ago that Gabe Newell had donated a large amount of money to Unknown Worlds to keep the studio afloat, never found out if that was true out not.

Yeah, sales would be a shitload higher if it were on Steam. I'm not exactly willing to give information to a strange third party website that I've never used by comparison.
Not even to mention how it took you guys to alert me to its very existence.

Fair point, I can't BELIEVE that we've never mentioned it once before. Or even TWICE which would have done it justice. To truly show it support this should have been the THIRD time we covered if we were any good.

Also...
Yeah, sales would be a shitload higher if it were on Steam.
It kinda is. I assume they'll get a store spot eventually.

It's on PayPal which is secure, but is the place if you want to scam people with. It's really easy to use PayPal and their User Agreement is full of loopholes. Thing is, it's secure and that is why people use it. I think the reason why they are not currently using Steam is the tax they impose upon developers. The $40 I sent to them for my copy was the full $40.

o_O

how does NS2 look like Halo? Natural Selection is teh awesome and halo is teh suckz.

Ugh, looks like Halo all over again...

Go away troll.

I'm seriously considering dishing out the dough just to get my hands on the alpha but I'm just not confident that I'll get good performance on it after seeing all of these videos and screenshots.

I'm not a troll, but yeah, I haven't played the first game and wouldn't know anything about the series. I apologise.

Maybe you should reserve that kind of judgment next time. :|
