So this has really been bugging me this entire freaking semester and I just want to vent here. :( I have to take a Geometry class with some old fart. He looks like yoda in fact. He can't hold himself up when writing on the white board and rather holds himself up by leaning on the eraser. The first class was rather weird. He suggested that we act like "Pete's mom" as the ideal student. He then started going into detail on how she looked to even how she smiled or ran/walked. Like a pedobear really. Besides being old, he's French (something tells me he is French-Canadian because this college is in NH. No offense Stern! :D) The major thing bad about him is that he's dyslexic. I have a friend and cousin who are dyslexic but they are nowhere near as bad as this guy.

Sure my cousin draws pictures backwards but this guy is teaching a math class! He consistently get's his answers wrong and I have given up saying he is wrong and correcting him. He then says "oh yeah your right, etc". He can't teach if his life depended on it either. If you ask "how did you do that?" he gives a complicated answer that makes no sense that makes you say "yeah ok I'm fine. Just go on." My first test was a 33 and my last test was a 61. It could have been a 75 if he didn't mark off 3 Q's wrong because I "labeled" it wrong. Then my welding teacher is really great no complaints. He just sounds like the Visine commercial guy. He can't grade tests though! He marks off everything with 1/2 off even though it's the book's definition! He refuses to accept my reasoning though and only says that I should follow his notes instead of the books.

I should have got a 90 on the last 2 tests but got 60's instead. A guy in my class who always leaves early and never studies got a 70 and was the first one done with the test! The rest of the classes I'm getting A's and B's except for these 2 classes. Originally I thought my math teacher was a little weird but let it slide until next week. Unfortunately though the cut-off date to cancel a class and get your money back is 1 week! Worst part is my parents think I'm just lazy and slacking off. :( The kids really don't care either and walk out of the class while he teaches and have spit ball wars. He just says "settle down now" all the time. The math book is terrible too, even teaching how to add.

In fact he confused himself on trying to teach angles, etc last week. I know you guys can't do anything but I just wanted to vent my frustrations out. :( The teachers are starting to give out surveys at the end of the semester but my college doesn't fire these people even if classes continually give them poor grades. Heck my computer teacher last semester who sucked didn't even give out one and is still late for his classes, etc. I don't think my college would fire them either because they are so short on funding they can't find teachers. In fact some students at my college are teachers teaching in my college! :x

You shouldn't let these goof offs ruin your gpa, talk to your counselor or see someone higher up. Try to have one of your papers grader by another teacher in the same subject, see if they agree or disagree.

Yeah currently I have a GPA of 3.16 (which I was surprised to get after my first semester in college) but will probably go down a lot now. I really don't think the administration can really help me because 99% of the time, they are clueless students. Some though are actual college administration workers and still don't know what to do and refer you to another department. Then the other departement will refer you back effectively making you a human ping-pong ball. I'm gonna try and ask another welding teacher what he thinks though about my test.

What college do you go to?
On the Welding guy I would just learn his definttions even if it takes an extra hours time.
On the Math guy I don't know what to do.

Teach yourself.

It's the best way to learn maths.

dood. i had a teacher alone those lines.. but he was all that + and asshole from hell. drop the class and dont bother gettting your moeny back. i can tell you right now.. you are most likely doom and so is everyone else in that class.

Complain to the department head. You (or your parents) are paying a lot of money for your education and deserve to get a decent teacher. If the department head doesn't do anything, go up a level. Write a letter to the paper and to the dean's office. That will get some action going. Everyone always gets scared when they start getting pressure from the people above them. If the dean doesn't do anything, you can send complaints to the school board of directors or to the governors office.

Ok I just got back my third welding test. He said that if we studied hard you should have gotten a good grade (which i did). I got a 68. :hmph: I asked questions because my answers were out of the book and other classmates got similar answers. He said that we got the right answer but it's not the full or "his" answer. Even though they were the full answer he still marked them 1/2 off or wrong. :( Does this make sense?

Maths at college? how do you stay awake in class, i left maths back in high school where it belongs lol

We have, or maybe had, at teacher at my college. He NEVER taught us, just sat on his computer looking at his bands website and reading his emails. When we ask him what we're meant to do he just says its online. He also sometimes leaves the class and doesn't return for 10 maybe 15 mins at a time sometimes.
Well, us (the students) took it higher and we all wrote complaints about him. The director of the department came into one lesson and saw us all playing games, she walked out and sat in the next room talking to some other and then she saw him walk out.

Anyway, they are going to be sorting it all out over the holiday, and he may or may not be there when we get back.

Morale of the story is, complain! Don't just waste your money on crappy teaching. Not so bad for me cause I don't pay yet. :P

RUN AWAY! Is my option. Go to another college or complain until your ass is bleeding.

Wait, why do you have to take geometry in college?
Because welders, like carpenters, have to build stair cases and other stuff. Such as building a grain silo and finding how much volume it can hold, etc. Next semester I'm taking Trigonometry and it makes perfect sense. Our welding teacher showed us an example and it was fun. I'm not gonna take another class with this retard though. Gotta takes more classes with my welding teacher though. :( My mom said that I didn't study either but I joined a study group with other students in class. Then when my dad says I was right and should have gotten an 80 at least my mom was like "oh....".

Joining the study group was a good idea. Dude your parents sound like dicks.

If your really get stuck you could get a tutor, probably not for welding. I'm only in high school and had a teacher who was a 'nerd' and couldn't explain things simply so I saw a tutor and it made it easier to understand what my teacher was on about. I would only suggest this as a last resort because of the cost. Complain like hell and keep complaining.

Actually I did that too. I signed up for a "personal tutor". These tutors try and fit around you schedule rather than a "professional tutor". As it is I have one, four hour block of free time per week. That free time doesn't land on the tutor's time but the person is there on Sunday. Since my school is so lazy I havn't gotten a tutor since the starting of this term so I went to a proffesional on Sunday one time. I have to travel 40 miles to get to the school so that's why I didn't want to go. The tutor did solve all of my problems. The tutor even said "Wow! He gave you Q's like that on the test? Those are really hard problems for this math". She solved it but still got it wrong according to my math teachers idea. He even called the problem easy! :P Tommorrow I have another test but I plan on getting good grades because he's just gonna ask what a tangent is, etc. I learned that I will probably be getting a C in my welding class. I'm gonna bring my tests to another welding teacher and see what he says. Also I'm gonna try and see what I can do about my math teacher in student affairs tommorrow.

Tbh you're screwed if you complain but you do it too much like a kid or if you don't go down official channels - ie. letter writing, formal complaints, etc. Even then you're likely to make little progress.

If your schools there are anything like schools here, there is nothing more pointless than trying to complain about teachers to other teachers. Those bastards would back eachother up even if it was for holocaust denial.

So just to get you up to speed on the last 2 days. I took the geometry test and only 4 out of 12 showed up. The rest gave up on the class. The test asked bizzare questions like: What's the degrees on each side of a polygon? Now who the **** would know that?! Was it 60 degrees? There was other bizzare Q's that he never went over in class either. The good news is that he gives out a bonus at the end of the test. Based on how many Q's you get right he gives you points on how bad you did on the last test. So now my 33 is a 63 which is good. My stupid welding teacher gave out warning's to most of my classmates. I have a 66 average but he said it will be bumped up by tests and a report I did. So I will probably get a C. I asked the other 2 welding teachers and they found the test's graded wrong. They also found it a shocker that most of my class was failing like me. They said they could'nt do anything about it though. Mainly because he controls the welding program.

That's an easy question you should be able to know just from common sense or by drawing a polygon out. The interior angles have to add to 360 right, so the exterior angles are all 180 - 360/n. n being the number of sides. And don't complain to the ****ing teachers if you are going to complain. Talk to your department head and the school dean.

Your computer department sounds IDENTICAL to my current situation at my final year of sixth form, with A level exams coming in the summer and then hopefully prospects of uni.

For you see I took 3 subjects for A level; English language, Business Studies and ICT. Getting straight B's in English and Business and straight E's in ICT. But I'm not alone, oh no! The whole class (minus the only two girls there that flirt and get the IT teachers to do their work for them, I kid you not) are all attaining E's and D's at the moment, simply because the teachers do not have a damn clue about the course they are meant to be teaching, yet they continuously put the blame on the students for the poor exam results, because they can get away with it.

In fact they don't teach us at all, they dictate from an online course guide created by a school called 'Thomas Telford'. Everyone lesson they sit down, tell us to read from the guide and then they screw around on their Admin accounts or drink away infinite amounts of coffee, whilst chatting to the two girls in our class. Makes me sick.

Alas the summer is going to suck a fat one, seeing as I'll pass my other two subjects with flying colours and be dragged down horrendously by a subject taught by the two most incompetent arseholes to ever grace this planet. No amount of complaining by parents has had any impact on that department whatsoever.

*goes for a cold shower*

You guys all suck at complaining. If you are serious you would get your problems fixed with a couple letters and phone calls.

I think pulse is the only one who knows how it's like. There is a course called "college success seminar". The only way to get out of it is extremely hard (on purpose probably). You have to call a woman who is available 2 hours only on Mondays and never checks her e-mail (or knows how to use it). You have to have an extrememly high GPA or SAT score. Must have credits from one of their colleges. Basically it's impossible. They hire a teacher every semester to teach it because nobody likes it or knows what to do. In fact they got some, as my friend described it: "a crazy asian woman who can barely speak English and gave tons of homework on how to improve my life. She also taught us how to make origami". This course is mandatory as well. The teachers admit to it and everybody knows it's true reason- to get more funding for the school. When I had to take it, I had a history teacher, teach me it. He showed us the course outline and said it was very vague. So he taught us how to act in an interview, good handwriting skills, and how to think outside the box. In fact the last day he told us not to come to class. It was 2 hours of torture every Monday. College is meant for a higher education and putting out people who will make a difference in the world. What I'm seeing though is not the case. College is for:
  1. Expensive courses that offer nothing.
  2. Expensive textbooks that go with the course and you will never open the books.
  3. Finding out you can't sell them to the book store because "a more up-to-date version came out".
  4. Teachers who cannot write directions on microwavable popcorn.
  5. These same teachers are getting paid lot's of money to not teach.
  6. Anybody can become a college teacher.
  7. You will not be fired even if you truly suck at teaching.
  8. Faculty who do not know where their departments are (or if they exist) or how to change paper on the printer.
  9. Two of the worst teachers in my entire life are at this college. They are supposed to give out a survey to each calss, each semester on how they did, etc. Ironically these teachers who are terrible never give these survey's out. The college is in the dark about it but hey, everything is great because once the student fails, he takes the same course again with another sucky teacher! You know what that means: twice the amount of money for the college!
My college is so cheap that a girl in my CAD class found they had started re-using printed paper. Her drawing came out on somebody elses drawing! After the surveys they also want all the pencils back. In fact they count the pencils to make sure not one of them are missing. So just a word of advice on people who are going to college soon; there is a good chance your time in college will be miserable. This might not happen if you want to pay tons of money by going to Harvard, MIT, etc. If your the regular person though, you're out of luck.
