Hi, my 85 Toyota Cressida broke down on me yesterday, and if it costs too much to fix, I'm going to start saving for a new car. Since I'm only 17, I need something thats preferably under $8,000. I really dont want to get rid of my cressida, as it was my first car and I have a sort of bond to it.

Anyway, I don't want a honda. I want something thats fun to drive with a manual transmission. I don't want a 4 cylinder unless it's powerful for a 4 cyl (preferably a V6). I really want a Mustang 5.0 but that would kill me on insurance. I'd want it to have under 100,000 miles (preferably below 80).

Does anybody have any suggestions as to what I should look into?

Thanks a lot.

Get a motorcycle.
Even decent brand new ones are under 8k
Used ones are even cheaper

They get fantastic gas mileage
And i only pay 150 a year for insurance

Personally i would choose a dodge viper GTS coupe, metallic blue with dual white stripes on, but thats probably not to your taste, and maybe out of price range?

I'd like a motorcycle, but I don't want to be killed by some asshole business man on his cell phone. I prefer to stay on the dirt with bikes.

Please be serious, I'd like a viper too buy I'm asking for seriousness.

I just bought a car not too long ago, I took out a bank loan for 10 grand and spent just under 8 on the car.
I bought a 96 honda Civic Si...I know you don't want a honda and before I didn't think I wanted one either but it has a 14g turbo kit, koni struts, lowered, stage 2 clutch, carbon fiber tail lights, intercooler, and a bunch of other stuff..it looks stock but it can put you in your seat
Looking for a new car is quite fun but just make sure you buy something that is worth the money and will last...and Ford = no

How many miles did your civic have on it? Whats the stock HP rating for an SI?

Get a ford, i know a lot of fords are kinda common but they are good cars.
I'm not too sure exactly what other american cars are like so....

A japanese car would be good to get, toyota celica or a honda civic e.t.c

I was thinking a Taurus SHO, fast and easy on insurance. But it's a taurus...so I dunno

Stock hondas suck, the Del Sol (which might be a good option for you) is the fastest stock Honda, but I'm not sure about the exact hp for it.

1.8 v6?! that's freaking tiny. Anyway, I'm not too crazy for that styling =/. Looks too much like a hyundai. The rear of that black one looks nice, though.

EDIT: The MX6's look nice.

Tiny? Jesus ... you americans aren't happy till it drinks one gallon every mile

Suit yourself, I'm getting one though

heh, its cos we are european.
In UK most cars are like 1.3 litres.
In the UK a 2 litre is a good sized engine for a car.

We all know how yanks like their high capacity engines.

Haha, yeah. My toyota is a 2.8. Most american cars now are in the 3-4 liter range (6 cylinders) 5-6 for V8's.

The S2000 is actually the fastest honda and it's a sick car.
My car is far from stock anyway, it's not a car from NFSU but it's still pretty sweet, I'd post a pic but I'm at work.
There was a larger engine it b4 but the previous owner blew that and replaced it with the 1.6 v-tec engine, with the turbo and other mods it has about over 200 hp and for a light car it flies trust me. Oh yeah, mx-3's have no balls and most of the people who drive them think they're race cars, one of my best friends owns a mx-6 and it's pretty decent

We got a comedian right here. NSX is the fastest stock honda, and don't pull "but its an acura" because in japan its both, but more honda versions come out than the acura.

I say just get an old 87-91 Civic hatchback, gas friendly, and are nice in stock form.

Hmmm I don't know why someone would blow a b18(Since you said larger engine) and swap a b16a in it or a d series 1.6L. I would hope over 200hp if you have a b16 in there, because greddy kit makes 220-230whp with just it being bolted up. I got a friend that car "flies" want to race an Evo8 pushing over 400awhp? ;) About the mx-3's yes the stock motors blow, but race my friend with a jdm swap with i/h/e(engine has 210hp stock) your hatch would get beat or it would be a close race, don't put them down to easy, they weigh less than your civic hatchback or around the same area.

I'd never drive a little hatchback, my car's computer has been swapped out with an uber data computer so it's just gunna keep climbing in regards to rpm and with turbo which helps quite a bit, it's not too hard to blow an engine if you run out of gears lol and in regards to racing anything with 300+hp I know when to back down lol

Dont get a motorcycle. The police force in Australia refers to them as Tango Alphas on the radio. What does that mean? Temporary Australian.

If you want to be sensible, an older Toyota is the way to go. Very reliable, parts are cheap, gas mileage is good.

If you are like me, and are never sensible - I'd try and pick up an old crown victoria with a V8, say an ex-cop car. Goes quick, parts are cheap, and its a V8. V8 engine wear is low - because they are so overpowered. So thay can do 150,000 miles no probs before they need to be reconditioned.

If you ever get the means - and have a good income coming in, I would recommend to you the Corvette. I had a 1995 convertible black corvette, and it was a wonderful car. They are only worth about 13-14k atm. Bit more than you wanted, but within your grasp shortly.....

Dunno if you read my first post...the car that crapped out on me was an older toyota =). Anyway, I'd LOVE a V8 but t he insurance would be way too high.

Dump uber data, my friend used that to tune his 2.1L ITR motor, and its just bad, hondata is your friend. :naughty: ;)

I don't care what car you get, as long as it has a car whistle in it. :D

V8 = high insurance. I only make 7.50 an hour and get about 40 hours every 2 weeks working after school. I'm thinking this

or

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.j...nced=&start_year=1981&isp=y&cardist=47#vdptop
(I know the second is a 4 cylinder, but it's a very nice car).

I did. But thats just one car. Surveys, data of all kinds seems to show that Toyotas are very reliable cars for the long haul.

yeah insurance is a major bummer. I paid the same that you would have, because as a foreigner, my driving record was considered to be zero, ie teenager, despite the fact that I drove taxis for 5 years and held my licence in australia since i was 17. ie 12 years at the time I went for my license in the USA.

So I paid - 1600 US a month in insurance for the corvette. Which in one year, was more than than the corvette was worth. And that was the cheapest I could get. Some quoted 4500 US a month. But I had to cop it becaus 1) I wanted a car and 2) I hoped to stay in the US and so hopefully over time, the amount would be less. The major part of the premium was not the corvette, but the fact that I was a foreigner with no driving skills, allegedly.... (there are no roads in Australia and we have one Flintstones like car which the Prime Minister drives - so the US was right to be cautious).

Btw my apartment in San Diego was only 1200 per month... and I think the repayment per month on the car was about 1000. The insurance was the killer....

The NSX IS an Acura. I'll admit, its hard to find the differences between driving a honda and an Acura (I own an Acura), but I was speaking about Honda.

And as for the S2000, I was talking about in his likely price range. I dont think there are many S2000's < 8000

Old mercs might be reliable, but even reliable cars - you have to pay for imported German parts to keep them serviced. Thats uber expensive.
Thats the good thing about Jap cars, parts are everywhere.

Yeah only 300 bucks to boot. You can use your remaining nickel to buy dinner and a moving picture.

No its a honda, read the labels on the window, then research which model came out first, Honda did. I use to own an Acura too, but its really a honda, I was going to swap my Integra front end with the JDM cause I was sick of the 4 eyes.

Meh get an old skool Fox Body, and don't worry about high insurance cause they are old enough that it doesn't matter.

Yup. Most 4 cylinders are 1.8-2.5 liters, 6's anywhere from 2.8-4.2 (the new mustang's v6 is a 4.2). V8's from 4.6-6.5 liters. We like cars that go fast without turbos.
