Hey I am so ssorry I kow everybody hates this question but I need help now.
I have downloaded and tried to run Hlaf Life 2 demo through steam, but all I get is stange shapes, in strange colors, I cant recognize anything.
when I roll the mouse on the scree I hear menu selection sounds, but can not see the menu. During the installation computer continuously trying to download something, then loading screen appears but takes too much time and at the end nothing comes to screen.
Since this is happenning with HL 2 DEMO, I am asking to you people if I should purchase HL 2, I am missing minimum system req. w/only 200 Mhz of processor speed.
Anyone who was successful running HL 2 with a system like mine, please let me know.
Here is my system specs:
AMD Duron 1 ghz
256 ram
win xp sp2
8 mb on board ATI mobility
this is a sony vaio lap top
thanx everybody

That 8MB onboard ATI card just won't do. I know you probably can't upgrade the gpu but you're not going to have an enjoyable experience if you plunk down $49 for the game because it won't run any better than the demo did.

You can try the demo setting all the settings to the minimum, but I don't think you'll get anything close to what the game is like.

Damn that sucks, especialy after seeing what halflife 2 can do...I need to replace my video card, hoping to get a G force 6600. That will do correct?

Can you upgrade the Vaio laptop? I don't know about the Sony but Toshiba and Dell you're pretty much stuck with what you've got. If you can upgrade the video card a 6600GT would do nicely.

I can try and give you my specs in a little bit, just keep checking the thread, I be eating dinner. Its a gateway, if that helps.

Your processor is below minimum spec you wont get any better performance. Half life is very CPU intensive and your videocard would be held back huge. Also durons have a very small amount of cache so they are not as fast as they seem. Finally you might like to get another 256MB of ram to help loading and stuttering. Might as well get a whole new system if you can afford it!

I didn't read all of your post but you need a better procsessor. I had a processor that was 1.2ghz but it didn't work, good thing I upgraded otherwise I would be stuck at the 1st loading screen :|

Oh, these type of threads should be in the Hardware and Software forums

As you can see, I need a new video card, but I'm not sure if I need anything else...

Chnage ur Video card and if you still have money, try to buy a new processor.

Asumming that you are talking to me, can I ask why I need to replace the processor? In case, would it run just fine with the one I currently own, or is it in need of replacing?

He was talking to the original guy, you basically hijacked his thread...

hey everybody, who thinks doom 3 sucks??? ;)
(mods if you think this is spam, I am just jking about thread jacking)

To the original poster: I don't think that it will run good at all. I think the processor can slide, but the ram and that video won't do, and it being a laptop, I don't think there is much to do about that onboard video.

ok how about this!
there is a product from NVidia called something like MXM , and it is a pci card GPU interface (will be build) for losers like me. :)
they specificaly mension about the graphic problems of Lap Tops and they say they are still improving the laptop manufacturor network, until now they have some laptop companies that i never heard in my life, but they say product will be very user friendly.
reply to----> RAST
unfortunatelly all i could upgrade was my ram which came 128 to me and system doesnt support more than 256 which sucks.
my only hope is that graphics interface card from NVidia. I wont damn buy a new system for god damn Half Life 2.
Does anybody know more than I do about that GPU PCI card from Nvidia?

if you cant get more ram, all i have to say is to start saving for a new rig, maybe a desktop this time?
