Can anyone tell me what the deal is with this card? I asked for an upgrade to my GFX card at work recently due to me starting a project alongside a coder to create a Dx9 GFX engine. I know a fair bit about GFX cards and initially asked for something in a Radeon flavour, and disappointingly, ended up with a Winfast Geforce FX5200 256mb (which I know is bad) What I didn’t know was how damn slow it would be… Im having major problems running anything in DX9 over 10fps.. I updated to the latest Nvidia drivers and now im wondering if this card is even a real DX9 card… it just stinks so far. Im running on a dual athlon 1800xp motherboard made by Tyan(?)

Can anyone tell me what is wrong?

It is a DX 9 card, but it's just the worst one you could buy. There is not much you can do, the only thing i could suggest is swapping the card for a 9600/pro/XT

I cant as it company property, they bought it, but im thinking of telling them to send it back after today...
I cant get higher than 10 FPS in 3DS MAX!!!

What have you got Max running in? OGL or DX? It's always been a case of nVidia having excellent OpenGL support, but not too good DirectX, while ATI have excellent DirectX support but terrible OpenGL.

I used to be able to run 3DSMAX 5 on an old Geforce4MX rather nicely, and even Softimage XSI 3.5 would run quickly on it. Lightwave was the same, no real problems

on an ATI 9600XT Max 5 so far refuses to run correctly unless its in *shudders* software rendering mode. Softimage XSI 3.5 still has selection issue's in 32bit, though its other bugs seem to be working now with the most recent Catalyst drivers, but still has a few problem with CG shaders. Lightwave has issue's when all lights are switched off.

Maya and Houdini are so far the only ones that behave on both cards.

oh and incidently I have never been able to get Max to run in DX9 mode on a DX9 capable card *sighs*

Well im on MAX 6 right now, and I used to have a Geforce 4 Ti4200 which was x10 times faster than this in both DX and opengl. The whole reason I needed this card was to be able to run in DX9 mode and the crappy thing cant even load a box up in dx without dying! :(
