Ok so my brother ended up buying a new Mobo and processor, I took the old parts he used and with some new parts I made my parents a new computer. I was hoping that nothing would go wrong with it but luck isn't going my way.

I can get it to turn on, show the bios and that's about where it ends. I've got a feeling that something is really screwed up with the IDE Cables/Connectors or the new HD I bought for them is dead.

What happens is that if I have the CD drive and the HD on two seperate IDE cables I get this Screen(Sorry about size, not in the mood to shrink it) , after a few seconds it will recognize the CD drive but thats where it stops, I can hit Del, F8 and what not, but it won't go to it, instead the writing in it will change from 'F8 For Boot Menu', to 'Go To-> BIOS'. The 'ry test' on the next line makes it look like 'Memory Test', so I tried changing it to 3 different sticks and it still doesn't work.

But heres the weird thing,

When I put the HD and CD Drive on one IDE Cable, it'll actually work, it will get past that screen. The next screen will just say that there is no bootable drive found. I thought maybe I had to format the HD using the CD that came with it, I can run the program fine but the only problem is that it doesn't even detect that there is a HD there, it can only see the CD drive. I made sure that the jumper settings are correct when trying it both ways.

So why is it that when I put the HD and CD on one IDE cable it wiill actually get past that screen?

Just a guess, not sure....
Probably something to do with determining Primary/Secondary Master/Slave, check the jumper configuration on the back of each.

(HDDs are memory btw ;) )

id check that a pin isnt bent, it can happen. just use a butter knife or tweezers to straighten it if it is bent, or use your imagination ;)
just a thought

Set the two drives back on to seperate connectors and make sure the IDE from the HDD is connected to the motherboards primary IDE slot. If its not detecting your HDD before the CDROM, either its conencted wrong or the HDD's dead. If that dosen't fix it, try another hard drive, just to see if it will recognise it. If it does, get a replacement HDD.

Other than that, I would suggest flashing the BIOS, as by all rights, you should be able to get into the BIOS regardless of hardware conflicts. If its stopping just after detecting the CD ROM drive, its possible (Though unlikley) that your BIOS is corrupt.

Good luck

Well I got it to detect the HD now. One second I was looking at the BIOS boot order setting in which it could only find the CD drive, I went through a few more option screens not changing anything at all, went back to the boot order screen and there it was. It finally detected the 120GB HD for no apparent reason. I've got windows installed and its up and running. Only problem with it still is the 'ry test' message, it'll stay up for about 7 seconds then the devices will pop up, I'll probably just end up flashing the BIOS.
