Need HL2 benchmark

Umm, i'm not sure if my computer can run HL2, in fact i doubt it can but, can anyone direct me to some benchmark, and tell me what score I need to play this game decently.

The only benchmark I know of (bar the demo) needs to have HL2 and Steam already installed

Have you checlked your PC against the minimum requirements? They are pretty accurate as far as getting it running goes. Don't expect to look a million dollars though if you're only min spec.

If it's any use, I can play HL2 on my Centrino 1.6 laptop, which has 512MB ram and Integrated Intel Extreme 2 graphics.

Well my specs are:

Pentuim3
1Ghz (can i overclock CPU?)
320 RAM
32MBGeforce2 MX400
BUT i'm receiving my new card in 2 days, sapphire radeon 9600XT 128MB


Ok, I KNOW your computers are better than mine, but I just wanna play on low settings, maybe even meduim. Still with good FPS.

Please do not compare your computer to mine, I know yours is better. ~_~

Hmm, it's very unlikely you will be able to play HL2 with any reasonable frame rate - you may be getting a new gfx card, but your CPU will really struggle. Same goes for your RAM.

Best thing to do is to try out the demo. Also, we aren't pompous idiots here y'know, so no-one's gonna start insulting you.

the new graphics card seems to be pretty okay, but i think you also need more ram..
and, besides, what windows version are you using?

That's amazing for such a bad processor. But, i'm under then influence that any processor under the minimum requirements wouldn't be able to process the physics and all of the A.I. code at the same time. I found on my 2.4ghz that A.I. really makes my fps take a beating. For example CC:S with about 16 BOTS = around 10fps for me (check my specs below). I know it's not my card it's definately processor realted.
So i reccomend around a 1.6ghz for minimum.
As far as overclocking goes...If you can;t get a processor upgarde, overclock to about 1.2ghz, then try out the demo.

And f.y.i. 3.0ghz would be nice for extreme situation w/ no hang ups.

You new 9600xt should be quite suffient.

Your RAM will work, but the load times might be a bit painful.

You won't find any benchmarks that are even close to the performence that you will be getting on your system.

Yes, except he hasn't got that. The ram will be quite a limitation for him as will the CPU.

Faster cpus than urs aren't v expensive now, neither is ram. Get both of those and you'll be flying

I completed HL2 on my old machine with around 40fps.

The specs on that are as follows:

Athlon XP 2000+
512MB RAM
Geforce4 4200 65MB
Asus A7V8X

Now, your new graphics card is pretty good so i think it would probably work.

Yeah i'll try the demo once my new card comes in, also about overclocking my CPU... how? For video cards you need a fan or cooling system going on, to boost my CPU to 1.2Ghz will I need a fan? If anyone could tell me how to that would be great.

P.S. I have windows XP but might go back to ME later on.

Source is very forgiving with hardware, but if you want to run newer upcoming games your gonna have to really do an overhaul
