need more team members for Quake Source Mod

The idea of this mod, is my own idea.

Who misses the old days of rocket jumping? no headshots? no reloading? full bright or single lighting maps?

Games like Quake2 are golden gems of the past, and almost everyone misses those days, and still a good 70 servers can be found on GameSpy Arcade for Quake2 at any given time, which means people still play it regularily.

Instead of me ranting and raving about all thats wrong with HL2DM and telling everyone to go out and buy Q2 again, im making a mod with a small team of dedicated hardcore deathmatch gamers, to bringback the olden day DM gameplay, with graphics and physics of the now :D

so in short: Were going to mod HL2 to act alot like quake2 did back in the days of multiplayer (without the horrendous netcode of Quake), with better graphics and physics (ragdolls mostly). Were even recreating levels such as The Edge in hammer. Here are some pics of The Edge source in development at the botom.

Currently we have
Me: Lead Designer, Level creation
Josh: Programming
Kris: skinning

open positions:
Modellers (Character and Object) (SoftImage)
Level texture Designer
Anybody with Hammer experience can help as level designers


its a simple mod, and were really only looking for an Alpha, beta, and final release, with some minor tweaks and level packs as extra stuff.

pfff quake2? it's all about quakeworld !!

i still play DMC more than any other game on my steam list (by a huge margin)
 
DeathMatch classic? meh, still doesn't equal the pure adrenaline rush that is 18 players on a Quake tourny :D

ahh, when animation was measured in vertex transition rather than bones, lol.
 
erm..how can you like a fullbright map :-S great leveldesign helps, but lighting is definitely a good thing. i loved quake dm too though, so good luck
 
when somebody makes me q3dm17, i'll be the happiest guy in my suburb, with the exception of that crazy guy up, the road, who is permanently happy. :E

Just that map and the rail gun. Sweeeeet.
 
Valve stated somewhere that it's alright to arse about and base stuff on HL1.

But, yes, I can see this mod get into trouble. And, sorry to bust your bubble, but that map is a little ugly. It looks like a Doom 1 map. A poorly textured one at that. I think you sould have worked on the areas you were screenshotting a little more, before posting pictures, because it's not pretty.

To agree with Angry Lawyer, you need to post your best shots to get people psyched about the mod...Try to avoid light spots from no source.Even if you just use the light entity, dont have it with a spotlight cos that always looks odd.

Thats how Q2 worked so well - there may not have always been visable lights but the light looked almost natural for some reason.

wow. Lots of mixed feedback here.

#1. i aint the best mapper in the world and i cant choose textures worth my life. Hence the reason i need a team. I dont have Visual .NET to code, i cant map that great, my textures are ugly, and my SoftImage expires in less than 3 days. Like i said, hence the reaosn i need a team, i got a vision, and im tyring to undertake it.

#2. if legallity issues arise, sure, ill change the name mighty quick if it comes to that. Id even change the name of all the weapons even though i think Grenade Launcher and Rocket Launcher arent coined phrases.

#3. Duke Nukem Source? gimme a break.

#4. i like some of the suggestions, such as the railgun and that q3 map. Like i said, if ANYBODY want to help, please do so.

i want to make this just like the old days, of frantic rocket launching, explosions, grenades, bodies flying everywhere, etc. But without a team, i cant nessesarily do that. Doesn't anybody want to try and revive this? i can guarantee that if people downlaod the alpha, it will spread like wildfire to people who think the HL2DM weapons are imbalanced, but like the frantic "Not having to wait out entire rounds"

Quake2 has the best weapon selection imo. Good choice.

Try and throw in a mix of q1,2,3 and original maps.

Lighting is a good thing (make sure that certain weapons give off light too.

Co-op (very high difficulty) could also be an option worth investigating.

Like the Blood Mod, I'm interested (Blood also had great weapons)

Stick me on a contact list for this project if it gets past the pre-production phase. I'd be interested in giving feedback (mapping advice, gameplay advice, etc.) and even contributing if I had the time. For the contribution (mapping, for example) it really depends on when it goes into the production phase and how much time I have on my hands then.

Looking forward to seeing how it works out.
