Need opinions on my new rig.

Just got all the parts to build my new pc. Anybody have any suggestions as i don't know much about computers (my friend is building it for me)? I know everyone is going to tell me to get a better sound card but that is what i have in my current pc and it sounds great to me. In addition I have never had problems with this sound card so why spend the extra money. I don't think I will overclock b/c the biggest thing Ive done with a pc is change a vid card and ram. In other words i just really wouldn't know what i was doing. Here's the specs:

asus p4p800 mobo
ati radeon 9800 pro 128mb
Creative labs sb live 5.1
Corsair TWINX1024-3200C2PRO 1GB DDR400 PC3200 ProSeries Memory

16Xsamsung DVD
3 extra case fans

Looks fine, but if you're not going to overclock why not buy cheaper memory? Get the value series from Corsair, Kingston or Twinmos. Could save you some money, your choice.

I would buy a bigger harddisk and a burner, but if you don't use it why get them. Anyway very nice system especially the case, very good choice

How hard is it to learn to overclock?? Somebody told me that that mobo has an option of setting it to overclock in 5% increments without having to do everything manually. My case has 2 case fans in the front 2 exhaust fans in the back and a case fan built in to the side right by where the video card will go. Would i need more cooling to overclock?

probably, if you have a temperature sensor on ur CPU check that and if it stays below 35-40 degrees C idle then it should be fine for overclocking

Get an Audigy 2 ZS instead of the SB Live 5.1 (far better performance) and a WD1200JB, which is cost effective and faster on ATA100 than most of Maxtor's drives on ATA133. With that rig and a broadband connection you will fill these 120GB in no time, not to mention the 40GB of the Seagate drive (I actually happen to have an Samsung SV4084H Drive with the same capacity from my old rig, and it's slow and got quite loud after a few months).

Well ive had my current pc since p4's first came out (its a 1.3 ghz p4) and it only has a 20G hard drive. I tend to erase most games or mods unless i am currently playing them. In fact all I have on my pc now is half life, cstrike, battlefield 1942, and day of defeat. The most I've ever had on this hd has been about 18 Gigs. This is probably because i don't download mp3's, videos, etc. The fact that I'm married, work full time, and go to school full time usually limits me to about 2 nights of gaming a week :x. If circumstances where different I would play games every day and as such opt for a bigger hd. The problem is i start dental school next year and the wife is all of a sudden talking about starting a "family" :O.

It sounds like 40 GB will be fine for you. I'm happily running along on 36GB.

Looks decent, however even if you like lower capacity drives - a Western Digital Special Edition (8mb Cache) might benefit you - they perform better.
