will a pny 6800 work with an asus p4p800 (regular edition) motherboard? i bought the video card but haven't opened it becaue i am afraid that the two won't be compatible or something.

As long as you haven't bought a pci express 6800 then it should work.

I'm assuming because you just said 6800 that it's the $300 vanilla version, and they only come in AGP so you're fine.
