I've finally picked up a copy of Crysis even though my overclocked 8600GT sucks. But i have heard that there are some tweaks out there that can give me better graphics with minimal frame rate lost. I'm just wondering if anyone here uses any of these tweaks and can recommend me one. Right now it's looks awful with no trees or rocks :(

Have you patched your version of Crysis?

It improves your frame rate by up to 20%. I have the same card as you and I could set all my settings as Medium with the water and shader and shadow quality at high, and I got a constant fps of 30-50 at 1024768 reso.

Also there has been rumours that some members of Crytek will want to patch the original crysis with the optimized engine of Warhead when it comes out, or sometime after

We have a non-overclocked 7600GT and Crysis is running beautifully :P (medium settings mostly but it looks absolutly fine IMO. Any improvement would just be icing)

Thanks for that guys. I'll try it again tonight, medium setting were more than i expected this card to handle.

EDIT: One more thing, can i play in DX9 mode on Vista? As the game keeps defaulting to DX10.

I think if you add -dx9 to the shortcut poroperties, it runs in dx9.

You can. It's in the tweaking guide that MRG posted.

Yeah thanks for that, the game runs surprising well on medium, sure i still don't get any water but it works atleast. Quite a good game for ?2.50 lol

Sorry.. but forget Crysis....

I'm looking forward to this:

What HL2 taught me about mods:

- they take really long to come out, or to ever reach a stable, enjoyable build
- they aren't nearly as good as they looked or were described as

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with you & provide names for 3 insanely popular HL & HL2 mods.

1) Counter Strike - Both new & old versions.
2) Natural Selection - Both new & old
3) Day of Defeat - Both new & old

Not to mention the large selection of other mods for both HL & HL2 that have since come out. Too many to list. Of course they take time to make. So did the game they were based off of. Instead, they give you an idea

Those mechs look dumb as hell.

If they looked like that in-game, then I would agree with you. However, I believe that it's more than obvious that the above pics I post, do not show them in their finished & final in-game state. Instead, they give you an idea as to what the mod will offer.

Time will tell.

Do you have any idea how many mods were started for hl2 and never saw the light of day? Getting 10 good mods for the game sucks when you consider that hundreds and hundreds were in development at one point but never came out or sucked.

Thats probably what they will look like in the game (not including textures, which wont help dumb looking models). They'll make low poly versions, then make normal maps using the high poly ones they showed in those renders. Plus, they're so obviously ripped off from Warhammer 40,000. The first one is a direct rip from a Space Marine Dreadnought, the second one is a Imperial Guard Sentinel, and the third one is a Tau XV-8 Crisis Battlesuit. The only difference is that these ones look lame, whereas the originals look awesome.

Yeah, I was incredibly disappointed with the mod turn-out for HL2.
The mods either released and ended up sucking and not really fulfilling anything they promised or they switch engines.

Or they all get horrendously long load times and horrid net code.
