Neotokyo Map Teaser

That scares me to think who is watching our discussions on hl2.net when the original maker back 3 years ago making such an insignificant bench is reading the thread hehe. Welcome gato, and nice bench :)

Is neotokyo sharing / working together with nuclear dawn? texture/prop wise?
I ask this cause i saw the same prop in both mods?

Those are not the same model. Look at the proportions, WAY different. Yeah they are both modelled off of the same type of seat, but if you just look at it you can see they are different. The sizing and proportions man. Like the spacing between each chair, or how the one on the left has taller backs, and the one on the right has more square backs.

It also looks like the supports on the right bench are different.

Nice map. Looking forward to NeoTokyo.

The level design is hella tight and hella impressive. I don't know how the gameplay and optimization is going to play out, but if they're as high quality as this one level, I'll be all over this mod. In a non-sexual way.

I created that bench for the UT2K4 version of Neotokyo almost 3 years ago now I believe. The model is based off a real bench that I referenced from a google image search of benches. So it is quite possible ND found the same bench on google. :)

Cool, quite the coincidence, or is it not? Cause I have also the same advertisement in my map, as ND has (they also must have an account on environment-textures.org) or whatever. Thanks for clearing it up.

Heh. It's a cool bench either way. What's even more of a coincidence is that both benches are being used in maps set in Japan (unless it's a Japanese design in the first place). CampaignJunkie nailed the crit on the map (apart from the guy getting lost, which I believe was intentional to show off the caved in floor), but as DJB said, there has been a lot of work on that map since, and the video was released for the NT fans (probably on IRC only), not for general public release, then Mod-HQ posted it w/o permission and now it's found it's way onto HL2.net. It would be nice if the newspost was edited to acknowledge that it is old footage, but if DJB wanted that I suppose he would have already asked for it, and either way it looks nice.

ha! cool bench anyway, they booth looked so close to the real one, they almost look identical :p

About the caved in floor, i don't think multiplayer maps should have dead ends, it's never good imHo to have corridors where players might enter and then have to turn around only to find out it's a dead end.

I believe that gap can be crossed with one of the player classes, so its not really a dead end, per se...just an alternate route.

As xil mentioned, it is in fact a scout only route. Our scout class can leap much further than the assault or heavy class, it is a shortcut to a different part of the map :smoking:

WHOA.

That was awesome. It reeked of style and hard work. I loved the visual effects... badass :D

Why don't we use any of this pretty stuff for public seating. Most of the stuff we have is so horrible.

I am amused that this has evolved into a half-discussion about seating.

I'm pretty sure you can find those seats at Stansted and Heathrow. Cheap enough for Airports, but expensive for local councils. Generally Councils opt for furniture that is vandalproof. This sort of stuff is robust, but it in environments that are overseen, you start going crazy with the cheesewhip on it, pretty soon someones going to come along and take you away.

Ok this is sort of old but I only saw it now after a random google search. Please don't spread things like that about my website. DJ says nothing about Mod HQ posting it without permission as such a thing never happened. Perhaps you need to stay more focused when reading things or atleast not attempt to repeat others' statements if you are going to include elements that weren't there. No unauthorised material has ever appeared on Mod HQ. Thanks.

PHL posted it without permission violating their own (and my) guidelines and bringing the original host's server down as they initially used a direct link instead of uploading to fileplanet.
