Tokyo; a bustling, industrial, advanced metropolis- contrasted between technology and culture, old and new, traditional and controversial. Tokyo has always been at the forefront of my imagination; I’d love to discover what the City will be like in ten, twenty, thirty years time. Will it develop into an expansion of the present- sleek skyscrapers and sterilised inventions rising above the claustrophobic back streets, or could it degrade into something a whole lot more frightening? Machinery merged with humanity; poverty conflicting with industry, science tainting religion? [br] [br]

Welcome to Neotokyo. The government is corrupted with power, the populace starved from neglect- the new Tokyo is a “deadly dystopian nightmare”. As a player, you’re pitched right in the middle of this, trapped in a war between your own people. It’s such a rich concept; and by the look of their new site, the NeoTokyo team are going to live up to expectations. [br] [br] I thought NeoTokyo had gone. It hasn’t. It’s been reborn in the source engine; and the proof is in their newly unveiled flash website.[br]

[br]There’s tons of concept sketches and renders, all of which are completely new, that can be viewed by clicking the left and right arrows to the side of the site. Check all of this out here.

Wasn't this the team that actually went to hong kong to get source textures... or was that dystopia?

That's another thing, i hope they are able to set themselves enough apart to be distinct from dystopia, although it does look like they have some good talent on their team.

well i reakon theyve already finished a mod for ut2k4 or something.

one thing thats starting to get on my nerves with hl2 mods, maybe its a trend, but this whole gas mask glowing eyes on the models crap thats such a ripoff of hl2. but i know you get influenced by the art you love, i always make my characters with skinny little knees cause thats how my favorite comic artists did it.

i am waiting for a good sp experience for hl2, still not had one yet, or a mp with bots would pwn. nomore room in hell will be one of the only mp mods that 56kers could play

Mee too :E The ambience is just so... soothing...

I love pushbaks work, without him this mod would be nothing... well, not as good :p

Why the hell does everyone give 'mod' capital letters? The Ministry Of Defence has nothing to do with HL2.

*shifty eyes*

Yeah, this looks pretty cool!
They have made a quite completed UT2k4 version of this mod, so they know what they are doing.

And I love the fact that there is "Partytime!" carved into the spiderbot. XD

Hehe...looks like my little post got noticed...in a big way.

I've been watching this mod for a while, played the UT version (and still do). There are great things to come, in my opinion.

I might as well adress this: in my mind, and many of the players of NT:UT2k4, there is little or no relation between Neotokyo and Dystopia. Neotokyo draws heavily from a 'simulated reality', such as those in Ghost in the Shell. The world is fictional, but possible. Unlike Dystopia, Neotokyo is based less in fiction and more in reality - the guns are realistic, using 'convential' ammunition - no lasers, phasers, etc; the scenarios are futuristic yet draw from current reality; the gameplay is tactical and slower, very much like a special operations game where proper use of stealth (therm-optic camo for all you GiTS fans) can make as much difference as a well placed clip of ammunition. And generally speaking, those who rush, or attack alone, die.

Where can I get the ambient sound ? I'd like to download it..

what is the name of the sound playing on their website ?

Practically riped right from Ghost in the Shell.

Good stuff though.

I believe it is manufactured by Logic, who does sound design for the Neotokyo Team. Given that, I don't believe it is available for public download at this time. The name is also publicly unknown.

The song is called "bocst7" and is not available for download.

Logic, the guy that's done the music for NT:S so far is amazing (that's probably the understatement of the centuary, though).

The forums have been picking up a bit of pace the last few days over there, too, feel free to drop by there, as well.

What are you talking about? If anything HL2 copied other forms of media. Such as 'JinRoh'.

Do a google image search.

MJM, thats alpha footage that wasn't mean't to be made public. I'd take that down quickly if I were you.

Hehe yeah, that was really old, hence the CSS player models in the video, we've 6+ of our own ingame now. The video was made to demo some of the vision modes and other features and was really just ment for IRC peeps. In any case it's gone now - but we are planning on releasing a public video soon :D

This mod was very cool when it got released for the UT 2004 engine.
I see a lot of the same things are beeing reused including a lot of the concept pics. Thats not a bad thing though. PushBAK rules :)

omg NT... i like the mod alot..
nice work, keep it up

Well it's practically the same mod, just that they switched engine, so of course they are using the same concept art :E

We're reusing very little from the UT2K4 version, one weapon model, and some map statics otherwise everything is brand spanken new. There's a few pics that are old like the fuchikoma-alike concept that pushBAK probably just threw in there for flavor.

If we were using the same stuff from UT we'd have released the source version a long time ago :D.

I love the look of the mod, but that website is cumbersome to navigate. At least make a "Media" gallery so people don't have to browse through a ton of stuff in a linear fashion. Also, text hidden by backgrounds (like black text on a black background) is a sure-fire way to annoy people :p

Just thought I would drop a line to everyone who might be subscribed to the thread - the neotokyo site has another track up now, more of ambient variety.

I recommend a "check it out".

Yeah I just noticed that, while it's really cool, it's not as good as the last one :(

suitably anti-angelic. If that makes any sense.
