Net Neutrality - Last Day to have a Say

I've a slightly irrelevant question: why do you guys tend to separate the organs of your federal government, in this case the FCC, from the administration itself? I mean, you should have said "tell Obama to uphold his promises" not "tell FCC to uphold Obama's promises."

The inanity of that is simply beyond me.

We have a president, not a dictator. He can't just say something and then have it be so. There are other people that have a say as well, the FCC being one of them. And the President can't just override any branch of the government whenever he wants.

I envy your way of thought. Nobody here on the Korean internets seems to think that the Prosecutor's Office (or et cetera) could be a completely independent body, having a distinct place in the power balance of the Korean political system. It's always the administration's fault.

Oh, and, I thought the FCC was a commission, therfore appointed by Obama himself, thereby putting Obama responsible for their actions?

The FCC is effectively a semi-seperate entity. They, like all other commissions, bureaus, associations, etc. are accountable to the president. However, these alphabet soup agencies are not directly managed by the president or even directly controlled.

As to checks and balances, well it's worked out pretty damn well so far. Probably doesn't work in any other country because ours was effectively a new template when we started, with few to no prior traditions established. Other nations have traditions that make it difficult to start afresh.

It's kind of like how the Russians were tyrannical bastards in 1800, tyrannical bastards in 1900, and continue to be tyrannical bastards today.

I think that it's safe to say that if I had to pay to use halflife2.net, I wouldn't come here anymore.
I'm sorry, halflife2.net, but you're not worth it!

*holds back tears*

Well, it's past midnight here, and the time is up. Thanks to all who ever sent a letter; thank you for your support.
The FCC's public comment period closed just minutes ago. And despite the furious and well-financed spin by phone and cable flacks, it looks like more than 90 percent of the comments support Net Neutrality.

That's because in the last 72 hours alone, more than 15,000 of you took action. You fought back against the lobbyists and sent a clear message to the FCC: The Public Demands Net Neutrality.

But an open Internet is far from secure and the next couple of months are critical. Free Press needs your help to take our fight to the next level. In the next two months, we're pushing on three fronts:

1. At the FCC: Free Press has just submitted a detailed 200-page filing showing how Net Neutrality is vital to our economic recovery and investment in a better Internet. We'll continue to file new research throughout the winter.

2. In Congress: We're pushing to reach more than 2 million letters and calls to Congress by March, putting all elected officials on notice that the future of the Internet is at stake.

3. At the White House: We're working to hold President Obama to his pledge to "take a back seat to no one in my commitment to Net Neutrality."
Unlike Americans for Prosperity, the Free Press Action Fund is the real deal. We're funded by individuals like you. We don't accept money from businesses, political parties or the government.

We're powered by those who share our belief that the Internet belongs to the millions of people who use it every day — and not to companies like AT&T, Verizon and Comcast.

Thank you for your support,

Slowly slowly the government is controlling us, we'll live in a world like V for Vendetta soon enough.

Haha see, you think you just made a joke.

Haha.

Ha.

Joke.

Oh man.

**** you, America. Do something right for once. Please.

in the last 72 hours alone, more than 15,000 of you took action.
Good job. You understood a potential threat, weren't indifferent, were able to type in your name and click a few buttons. This is a proud day for America.

I don't understand, why can't people just chose the internet suppliers that don't charge them an assload of money?

The same reason we can't choose to watch a cable tv channel that doesnt charge us an assload of money to watch it. Because there is a massive monopoly on the industry, and if net neutrality is taken away, its going to be easy pickings for the likes of Comcast and AT&T to gobble up all the decent companies.

I hope net neutrality is crushed by corporations so I can stop going on the god damn internet every day and watching videos of people getting shot in the head, forcefully inserting horse cocks into their anuses, shitting on eachother, talking about shit they have no idea about, and thinking that they are being social and cool. No more ****ing stupid ass shit like that. **** you internet.

EFF YOUUUUUU

Why do you have to go and bring forced-bestiality-scat-snuff films into this? Why do you want to stop everyone else from enjoying them just because you don't like them? Don't tread on me because of your distaste of what I like on my internet. Just send the damn letter.

it's sickening that this is even an issue...back in the day when all this net neutrality shit was just starting to appear I figured it would NEVER escalate because it's the ****ing internet for Darwin's sake.

the world literally sucks, i'm moving to mars and hanging out with dr manhatten and his blue penis.

you would like that wouldn't you, tyguy. Dr. Manhattan's blue penis that is.

Yesterday was the deadline? For what? Does that mean that the letters or any action is pointless now, or what?
