My dad recently bought a PC for his bussiness/web browsing purposes. The computers are in a network, my dad's PC needs my PC to connect to the internet. I have a 256kb/s connection. I had 128 before and CS:S and BF2 ran fine on it. Now, however, when I play one of those games and my dad's browsing the Internet, I get lag whenever his PC is downloading data. That's because the bandwidth is issued dynamically, so at one moment I have 256kb/s at my disposal and when my dad opens a new webpage I have, let's say, 32kb/s, giving me enormous lag (bare in mind I'm talking kilobits here (1/8 kilobyte)).

What I'm looking for is a program, that would issue both computers a static amount of bandwidth for their disposal, for example 128/128 (to be fair), that could be changed whenever I like, but not by the computer itself.

Doeas anyone know such program?

I dunno about him, but I'm using a router with a static IP and I'd like something like that.

yea i have a static ip but i have dsl and i think if u have cable its dynamic

Umm... weather or not his IP is static or dynamic dosent effect his bandwidth...
About the only application I know of to limit bandwidth is Net Limiter, but it's not free.

Also, are you sure your dads PC relies on yours for bandwidth? Meaning that he is pluged directly into you?

If both of you plug into a router then theres no really going to be a way to ratio the bandwidth. Unless you got a seperate PC with server software installed that can function as a NAT and limit bandwidth.

If he's only surfing the web that takes your bandwidth, then you can always install that NetLimiter program (or something like it) onto his PC and tell it to limit how much bandwidth his Browser uses.
If he also downloads stuff then it will require more work.

Thats usualy the other way around. Typically with DSL you have to way a little extra for a Static IP and with Cable you usualy get a Static IP standard.

No router. I connect to the Internet through my PC. My dad's PC is in a network with my PC and I set it up so that it can use my PC's connection.

And seriously, when I use the words "static", "dynamic" and "Internet" in one post, it does not neccessarily mean that I'm talking about the IP :) Read with understandment.

I would have thought that the Internet Sharring protocol would have some way to throttle bandwidth.
Try using that Net Limiter and try to find something running related to Internet Connection sharing.
