Apparently they're from an old build but still new nonetheless.

I haven't seen some of them. But nice as always. Whens the release date?

I can't find myself to be interested in this game at all.

From what little I've seen, there's no shooting or action of any kind.

Well these are the people that made Max Payne after all, so how could there not be any shooting?!

Isnt it more of a story driven game than a action driven one?

Graphics are the same as HL2. I don't see why you guys think this game looks particularly good. Some CS:S maps look better than those screens.

They're far far from being the same as HL2's.

Watch the E3 06 trailer.

This is one of those games that needs to be seen in videos/motion to see why it looks so good, screenshots don't give it the credit it deserves.

This game looks cool, just because the setup sounds really trippy.

and i think the graphics look alot better than HL2 and CS. . .

You have obviously never seen Alan Wake in action.

I guess I need to watch the videos you guys are talking about.

They're seriously fantastic, and i'm shocked there hasn't been more buzz about this game. . .

This may be comparing apples and oranges but since both are open world free roam type of games, how do you think GTA4 graphics stack up to Alan Wake's?
Going by these shots alone, I'd say there is no drastic difference in graphical quality. In fact i would say GTA4's is better since these AW shots are seriously lacking in texture detail.
Any one know how old this build is?

Ok, call me paranoid, but does anyone see the resemblance with the 2nd Alan Wake pic and this?

Not really. Certainly no sign of stealing or imitating.

Any way, it's hard for me to be excited for this at the moment since I haven't heard about it in quite some time. But apparently they got a lot of inspiration from Twin Peaks and the like, which is total win. In fact, it was exactly what popped into my head when I saw the first few shots. If the game holds some brilliant Lynchian head****ery like Lost Highway, then sign me up.

ADDED: Oh yeah, definitely Twin Peaks-ish. Secluded little town in the mountains? Check. Saw mill? Check. Bizarre, occult-like activity bubbling beneath the surface? Check check check check check.

Very much looking forward to this game :)

I wonder if this will run on my 486? :(

But seriously, my computer exploded just looking at those screenshots, and it's relatively new (September 2006, albeit not exactly top of the line at the time, but definitely not falling behind either)

dude, that was the very first thing i thought of when i saw the screeny.

and if my pc can't handle, i always got the 360

I'm having a hard time deciding wether I should pre-order the 360 vers or the PC vers :<
Considering according to the devs, the 360 version will run the quad-core version of the engine, and I only have a dual-core CPU.

All we've seen of GTA4 was a very small trailer that didn't even really show off much.

Gunner, watch the video clips,

and the release date is Q1-2008...... yes.

Alan Wake certainly looks amazing, but there is one problem. All the realistic graphics, physics... and a third person perspective view.

Come on, this ain't realistic! How often do you see yourself running? This sounds like Out Of Body Experience! :D

I seriously hope there will be some way to enable first person perspective in this game. Maybe the devs will put such an option in the game or it will be available through a mod.

Call me crazy, but I am incapable of playing TPP games. That's why I could not enjoy Max Payne :(

ps - I remember an old Raven Software game, Heretic II. It was a TPP game, but in one of the patches, they added FPP view, cause fans demanded it...

Haven't you ever played Silent Hill? Third person is fine for a game like this :O

Ugh, I don't even want to look at these as the game is so far from being completed. Still, it looks wonderful in the graphical sense and seems to be as great in the story/gameplay sense...we'll see though.

Tried playin Resident Evil years ago, I guess Silent Hill is similar to that one in terms of third person-like perspective. It sucks ;)
Playing TPP games is just like playing racing games using the exterior camera. Some people aren't used to watching the virtual world with "their own" eyes, they must see the character they play or the vehicle they drive... otherwise they are lost in the virtual world.

I am lost in a world in which I see "myself" :p

this is gonna be vista and 360 exclusive right?

Even though Silent Hill (2 in particular) is third-person, it was still one of the scariest experiences I have ever had while gaming. Playing with the lights off and the sounds cranked was entirely terrifying--try it!!!

this is gonna be vista and 360 exclusive right?
I am sure some of the effects will be Vista-exclusive :p, but it will likely run on previous versions of Windows too.

Yup, originally it was supposed to be simply PC, PS3 and XB360, but MS purchased publishing rights(Or the entire company, don't remember exactly) and forced the scrapping of the PS3 vers and the game was announced to be Vista only and XB360.

I guess I'll never play this one then. I will never in my life use Vista. Once XP has run it's course I'm off to the open source sunset and the hour or so I spend gaming a month will be going with me. Can't say I care.
