I'm buying the Honda Civic Sedan VP. I go tommorow to fill out the paper work and drive home with it.

:):):):)

PS - Did I mention I am happy right now? Time to party. See you guys either late late tonight or tommorow. :)

Finally buying a car has taking a giant weight off of my shoulders. Now I don't have to worry about repairs or horrible gas mileage. Or wondering if there is a better option.

Didn't read through the topic, but I figured I'd give you my 2 cents...

I have a Toyota Corolla. 17 grand brand new, almost the best one you can get. (Don't mean to be a showoff, I'm just saying) It is a great, great car, reliable, and fast and cool-looking and roomy and just overall pretty damn good. It has everything that you really need, too. I know you said "under 16" but I'm positive that you can get one for well under 16.

:)

EDIT: Haha, went with a Civic, eh? I like the Corolla more, but the Civic is pretty good and has a good resale.

I own a 2004 Civic and I'm really happy with it. Have fun with yours :D

I'm a big fan of picking some used but resiliant model of car (Saab, Honda, Ford) cheap, and making it run. Costs far below street value in total. That said, its certainly not an option for everyone.

congrats  ...I'm guessing the VP is the same as the SE here ..great choice. What was your deciding factor? Did you take it for a test drive? I wanted the SI (EX version in US)version with the V-tech engine but when I priced it it was more than the imprenza which at least had All wheel drive

Dude, 67 mustang and boost that thing the hell out, if I were you I would fix up the el camino and pimp that thing out, I think those are cooler than anything you will find.

Price was a major factor. I can currently afford higher payments right now (thank-you scholarships), but there is no certainity in the future until I get a full-time job in a year. So getting the Civic VP was a great balance between a really reliable car and some comfort features without being too extravagent.

I could have gotten a Nissian Sentra 1.8S that has more features than the Civic I just got, and cheaper, but I decided against it. The build quality was less than a Honda, its crash ratings were horrible, and not to mention the higher TCO (total cost of ownership - I'm such a finance/accounting nerd).

The VP just has a CD Player, and AC with air filtration system in it. Then I also bought window tinting and an alarm as well.

I test drove the VP twice. The only thing I don't like about the Civic is the brakes, they seem a little soft (which is a typical Civic compliant). But everything else is A rate.

It was also nice that the sales manager was willing to show me the actual numbers to show me how they got to my monthly payments. As an accounting major, that is something I value. No other dealership was willing to do that for me.

As for the EX, I didn't take a look at it, but the features don't really impress me. I would rather go with the next major model up (from what ever car manufacturer) than have the absolutely top of the line bottom level car.

I couldn't take proper care of it (the car is in horrible shape, especially the interior). I'm doing a fair amount of driving and 11 miles per gallon (with a mixture of city and freeway driving) wasn't cutting it (28 mpg with the Civic with city driving :D). Not to mention the horrific repair costs (note to self: Dealers don't take a look under the hood for trade in cars, they didn't notice the $500 in car repairs the engine needed)) and some potential expensive costs coming up in the future (ie: burning oil) left me with really little choice (average 5 year repair cost for the civic = $500). Unless I was willing to spend $20,000 on my Elky, anything that I would do to it wouldn't increase equity in the car, increase reliability or gas mileage. Maybe sometime in the future when I have money I will fix up a car, but not right now. I already have an expensive hobby (computers) and can't afford an even more expensive hobby.
