new comp able to run HL2?

I ordered a new computer from Cyberpower and it's arriving on Friday with a free coupon for half-life 2. I was wondering if i could run it with the new computer at a decent frame rate, here the specs:

AMD Athlon 3500+ w/ Hyper Transport Technology
512Mb RAM (upgrading to 1024Mb)
NVIDIA Geforce 6600 256MB 16X PCI EXPRESS

yes that comp is good, get the extra 512mb ram if you can, a gig is recommended these days and hl2 load times are quite long anyway.

no worries- get a gig of ram for spare - you'll be blown away when you start playing

Not that this will help anything but my comp specs are:

256 mb ram
1.8 ghz processor
9600 XT

and I get an average of 40 fps using medium and low settings and resolution of 800*600

just curious, how much did that cost you.......because cyberpower usually rips people off. If you paid more than $1000 for that system..........well....thats not good.

Don't get a 6600.. at least get a 6600 GT, it has much better performance.

gig of ddr2 ram @533mhz
x800xt pci-e

i recently played through hl2 with everything maxed, 1600/1280 res(watever the higest),vsync on @ 75 hertz and 6aa and 16af and it was playable the whole way, it ran around 30fps i say, higher obviously when nothings going on. it'll run fine although when the game first came out i had rather poor performance i felt in comparison with far cry and doom 3.

i hope you dont get the stutter bug that many got.

6600 regular is fast enough, by far...

meh, 6600 vanilla is ok, but with a GT you get much better clock speeds.
