new comp

ok i put the thing together and then whne it powers up it makes a weird sound, up down up down, in a whistle. then it goes to the motherboard load up screen and then it shuts down. if u push any buttons it will shut off quicker. help

Your motherboard manual should describe all the error signals given, try checkin it out. Never used an intel mb so not sure they even give a manual, check their site as said before if you dont have one. What chipset is the motherboard btw? maybe ur cpu is a prescott and your motherboard doesn't support it. (don't u find 40 gigs too small for storage?)
Edit: Oh yea, check that u plugged all the needed power cables into ur mb.

Also, just a quick thought, are your jumpers all correct?

Also be sure to check the PSU... don't do something stupid like i did with my first comp. Make sure it is on 110-120v, not 220v :0
