I need a new computer, cause this 1.80GHz, 512MB ram, AMD Atlhon 2200+, Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti 4200... sucks..
Well, It's been a long time since I got this, and my question is: What do I need?
I know how to build it and what parts, it's not that, but how much ram, hd, graphic card, sound card, motherboard etc.
I only use it for gaming, and I want it to be ready for Aftermath... Thx :)

Some version of an Athlon 64 on Socket 939 (3500+ is a good start).
If you do a lot of multitasking then keep an eye on prices for AMD's dual core X2 4200+ and the upcoming X2 3800+ (this ones not out yet).
2 sticks of 512MB PC3200 (Having 1GB is very helpful). OCZ holds a very good performance/price ratio. Corsair, Crucial and Kingston are also good picks.
A Socket 939 motherboard to match the CPU. Boards with Nvidia's nForce4 chipset have been the most popluar by far. Boards made by MSI and DFI are probably the most popular boards for the A64 right now.
Harddrives are going down in price. I'd recommend WD still. ;)
GFX card? Depends on your budget. Nvidia 6600GT if you need to save money. ATI's X800XL or Nvidia's 6800GT are the best performance/price ratio. Nvidia's 7800GTX if you want the best card on the market.
Get a PCI-Express GFX card (Not AGP) and make sure your motherboard has a 16x PCI-Express slot.
Brand name 400Watt PSU or above. Make sure it has a 24pin ATX power plug instead of the 20pin for your Motherboard. Antec, Fortron, Enermax, OCZ are some good brands.
If you get a SATA harddrive you will need to use a floppy drive to install Windows.

Thx, i'm 14 yr and from Denmark, so i didn't quite understand it all, but I think I got the big picture :) TY :)

Good socket 939 motherboard would be an ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe NF4 (for gaming).

Make sure u have at least 400w PSU to power that GFX card :p.

*Since i been here i found that AMD's 64 939 4000+ are good for gaming ! :p

good luck on ur new PC

What about AMD Athlon64 PR3800+ (S-939) Box,
ASUS A8V-E Deluxe (S-939),

200GB Maxtor 7200rpm 8MB,
1GB DDR Ram PC3200 Samsung,
256MB ASUS ATI Radeon AX800pro/TD/P,
400W Codegen PFC 120mm 18dB,

Only difference is with mine u can have 2 gfx cards :D both on a PCI-E x16 Slots :p

How fluent are you in the way of assembling a computer? With a budget like that, you may consider a pre-built job if you don't want to build your own. Alienware has some balls of fire in your price range.

One of my friend will be assembling it, and he does it for a living...

About 1800 $

get the following:

AMD Athlon 64 4000 San Diego (Socket 939) Dual DDR400 CPU
- Asus A8N-SLi Premium nForce4 SLi (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard
- Crucial 1GB (2x512MB) DDR BALLISTIX PC4000 CAS2.0 Dual Channel Kit
- 300GB Maxtor DiamondMax Plus10 16mb cache SATA 150 Hard Drive
- PowerColor ATI Radeon X850 XT PE Platinum 256MB DDR3 PCI-Express Graphics Card
- Pioneer DVR-109XLS 16 x 16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter
- Creative Sound Blaster Audigy ZS 7.1 Sound Card
- Silver floppy drive
- Coolermaster Silver WaveMaster Case
- Enermax 600W ATX2.0 SLi Compliant Power Supply
:sniper: KIK ASS PC

you dont need the 600W sli compliant PSU, I think 450W will be enough but keep it with enermax or OCZ etc.. absolutly no q-tec or crap like that, and wavemaster? WTF, you really got a crappy taste for case designs m8 :) get a stacker, looks alot cooler!

A comparible replacement for the X800Pro that doesn't perform low for it's price is the X800XL.
Performance: X800XL > X800pro
