i'm guessing this has been mentioned in some other thread somewhere, but i didn't see it in this one... at CSBANANA they say that CS:S will be a free add-on to HL2.. which is good because it means a) it is free and b) it's not HL2's multiplayer component.

I hate to put a damper on your statement, but not only does that NOT point to the fact that CS:S won't be HL2's multiplayer, but it actually supports the theory.

Edit: Actually, if the word used was indeed add-on, than, you could be right.

I love the free add-on idea. It's a great way to spend one's money, from the company's point of view, IMHO.

But why make billions if they could make... Millions?
