To view these pics be at least arms length away from your monitor.

Be sure your eyes are level with the pics and straight ahead.

If you hold your finger about a third of the distance from your nose to the screen and look at your finger, your eyes are just about in the right position to view the 3D effect.

Look right at your finger and you will see one finger. Look at your monitor and you will see two fingers.

Now keep looking right at your finger but notice the images in the background starting to line up. Once they line up you will see the 3D effect much like you would with a View Master.

Crossing your eyes isn't something you do everyday with any precision so it may take some practice. Be patient and don't try too hard. Once you get it the image will pop out at you. You won't need to keep using your finger after you've trained your eyes this way.

Enjoy

I got the images to line up, and it looks fairly cool, but the're too blurry to marvel at them. Whenever I take my view away from my finger, they go back to normal.

If you got them to line up, that's the hardest part. just practice a little and you'll find you can focus just like normal. The pics are even sharper after you can see them because now you have double pixel density! LOL!

I can't do it on computer, i try but i can't... :\

But on these cool books i make it very easily... :)

All i see is two blurry images and a finger...
I'm bad at things like this -_-

there's another kind in which u do the same thing at some patterns of usually coloful textures and some 3d image will suddenly pop out at u (can be anything). the textures can be anything too. it can even be real pictures (usually they are made with patterns that don't make sense). but putting the hidden 3d image in it requires computer programs. Those are a lot cooler. btw, i could never do this kind. those other ones don't require u to cross as much. do u guys know what i'm talking about? have u seen those?

God damn I hate 3D damn pictures..I can never see them..

You just don't have patience to try!

Loved them! good job.

you dont even need to do the finger, just cross your eyes untill a 3rd picture is revealed in the middle of the other two

this is amazing... soon they will make glasses that cross your eyes for you and it will create the best damn effect ever!!! I CANT WAIT ALREADY

Parabolart, they already do, they are called shutterglasses.

and I just eyeball them, no problem. But guys, QUIT WALKING SO FAR LEFT OR RIGHT BETWEEN IMAGES. human eyes are about 3 inches apart, not 3 feet!

I just can't see these kind =(

For all those that can't, a fun trick is pushing lightly underneath either your left or right eye while you look at the pictures normally... adjust up or down until it looks 3d!

The idea is that an illusion of depth is created when 2 images that look similar are lined up together, which is how our eyes do it. Ever notice it's hard to navigate when one eye is closed?

Anyway, if you do that push-on-your-eye-lightly trick, you can make movies look 3d too on the big screen. It's not as intense as actually doing the 3d puzzles properly, but it looks cool nontheless!

OK, I attempted to make a more subtle 3D effect, I think the reason some people are getting eyestrain is because once they get it, it's a very hugely 3D look, as in, exaggerated. I still moved to much, but I'd estimate closer to 5 inches of movement in game, so the effect is more accurate to how we actually see it.

(Image compression rocks!)

Best thing to do is find something in the picture to center on. Like in this picture:

http://www.b5-blender.com/temp/hl2ss4.jpg

Look at the doorway in the far end. Cross your eyes until the two blurry doors meet. Keep focusing on this. Now, this is the weird part. Dont look just out of one eye, but try and focus on that door with one of your eyes without uncrossing them. It sounds weird but it works. If you keep trying, it'll slowly start to focus in. With enough practice you can get the 3d image within a second.

The last pictures kinda suck, bad colors make things pop in when they should pop out. Removing the white line between the picture is a mistake too...

I look a the left picture, tilt my head back a bit and then cross my eyes, then relax.. works well.

Ohhhh! Whoops! I was having a ton of trouble until I realized I was crossing my eyes the wrong way.

holy shit i just figured out how to do it ... guys ... cross your eyes ALOT until you see 3 of the pictures ... the one in the middle is the 3d one and if you squint your eyes a little bit while concentrating on keeping your eyes crossed the image will appear clearer ... i'm a believer now ...

Actually it works best if there is no divider between the two pictures. Some people like to put a red dot on the top of each picture right in the center so people can use that to center the third image on.

Ron andExodin can you go in to further detail as to how these work?

I made some quickly on the previous thread in the steampowered forum but I thought it was a simple case of shifting the camara slightly.

When making these 3D be consistant. Try to side step always to the right or always to the left. This makes it easier when composing your 2 pics. you won't have to keep guessing which is the left pic or right pic.

Before you take your first screenshot, notice where your crosshair is. This is your focal point. If the cross hair is on an object, like maybe a crate in the distance, you want to side step slightly and then turn on your axis to fix the crosshair as best you can where it was before you side stepped. Horizontal positioning of the crosshair is more critical than vertical positioning.

When you are done composing the image you may need to brighten it or add contrast. I find that a little contrast is all I need in most cases.

The last thing you want to do before saving is to sharpen the image just a touch.

When I first started making these I didn't know how to eliminate the weapon. Because it moves with your point of view it appears as sunken into the pic.

If objects look like they pop the wrong way, simply swap the two pics.

The red dots and borders around the images are just training wheels to help the eye line up the two images better. Once you train your eyes to see the pics you won't need either.

Color has nothing to do with popping in or out. Left and right does. Just swap the images and try again.

Once you get the technique of seeing the 3D images, click on the link below and go to the Splinter Cell site. Play the "Shot Search" game.

This is one of those games where you look at two pictures side by side and try to find the differences.

With the cross eye technique you will instantly see the differences and breeze through the game. You'll be able to whoop anyones butt on those bar room video game machines!

heh, they look ALOT better at twice that size, but I know most people here can't do them that large. (Takes me awhile to get them when they are that size....)
