New Crysis Screenshots

Meh, still looks like a game to me.

But im probably just spoiled... being a guy who does computer animation for a living all I see is really really high quality CG.

Cryst alive that looks good!
Geddit?
Thank you, thank you - you've been a great audience ladies and gentlemen! I'll be here all week!

It's definitely pretty, but you're right, it still does look like a game. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination.

Although it looks gorgeous and incredibly dramatic, I'm still a tad sceptical about gameplay. I find it quite telling that in one of the E3 vids, one of the developers says:
"I could tell you a whole bunch of stuff about this game, but I think it's more effective just to show you how beautiful it is."
Plus fighting robots is, almost all the time, rubbish.
So basically, I'm reserving judgement.

Yeah, no doubt it looks good, its just not getting me excited or hyped at all. I have no intention of getting this game at the moment, because as far as i can tell, the game itself could very well suck ass. Unless it includes photo-real graphics, i will never be excited by a game's graphics.

I'm getting the feeling that this game is going to be like Far Cry (duh) in the sense that it will be more fun to fight soldiers(Mercs) than the Aliens(Trigens).

Also the further i get through the screenshots the more and more average they look.

^ Yea I thought so too. But they are pretty low res shots.

My intrest in the game remains the same: It's probably worth an illegal download, even a 6gb one.

All I get is "Please note that these screenshots have been removed due to an official request."

Since when is text-based graphics impressive?

I don't care how nice it looks, the more I see the screenshots the more I become aware of exactly what Crysis is aiming for. Simply a techdemo for their technology.

Well thats incredibly cynical of you, as I dont see how you have seen anything we haven't so far to suggest that the gameplay/plot/flow etc is crap?
All we have seen so far is fairly neutral 'snippets' and small videos, I dont see how you can conclude that this is a 'techdemo' just because they are touting the graphics as one of the major drawcards to this game. We simply don't know yet how good it will be as a game.

That's exactly it. They're trying to wow us with their pretty looking engine, yet have shown very little innovation, gameplay, and general substance to boot. My guess is that they're focusing more on physics and graphics, hoping it'll detract from AI and gameplay issues.

And we already know the plot is complete and utter shit.

It's going to be years before I'm able to play Crysis with the graphics settings on full (like in the screenshots). Hell, I still can't play Far Cry on it's highest settings.

If I were to pick this game up when it's released, I'm not going to be seeing the ooo's and ahh's of the graphics. With that out of the way, the gameplay flaws become more apparent. I think the reason why I'm enjoying my playthrough of Far Cry a second time is because I can play that game with better graphics than I did before, and the visuals are helping to cover up the other problems.

I have to ask myself if I'm buying Crysis for the graphics or the gameplay. If it's the former, I might as well wait for 2-3 years until I have a PC powerful enough to play the game at the Recommended settings. If it's the latter, then I'm a little more skeptical. The enemies don't seem that interesting, the weapons seem to be lacking, and some aspects of the gameplay seem geered more for a graphical effect than a gameplay asset ("you can punch down trees and buildings...just look at those physics").

Granted it's still in development and things like the AI can still improve, but as it stands right now, I'm on the fence.

Personally, I love how great the graphics are because I really liked Far Cry for its 'virtual vacation' premise. Even after the cost of upgrading my rig to run Crysis well, its still cheaper than a tropical vacation! Plus, the Sandbox editor that should come with Crysis will allow me to recreate my own personal virtual paradise with as few or as many problematic elements (i.e. enemies) as I desire. The game itself is meh, but the virtual paradise aspect is what has me totally sold on it. :)

Too bad they took down these screenies though...;(

That CANNOT be real.

That is so freaking awesome, I don't care if some people think crytek won't deliver on gameplay and story, it still looks epic. The proper deforestation and modable weapons is what strikes me as having great potential to bring something new to the fps environment, and those interactions should clearly influence the gameplay and make it somewhat different.

nothing new about modable weapons, and nothing too special about the way they have implemented it...still good though.

Far Cry was pretty much a tech demo, but the developers still showed they had the skill required to impliment a decent story. They didn't expand the story elements however, which left Far Cry feeling a little too much like a jungle grind. However, judging by the Crysis screenshots (the enemies actually look interesting this time around, rather than simply based on generic prefabs or cliche's) and the proposed game mechanics (different factions / squad controls / relationships / missions ) they're really trying to make a full game this time around.

Hopefully they won't go on the Far Cray: Predator route and sacrifice non-linearity for cliche'd plotlines, though (although I think Far Cry Predator was developed by completely different people, which is good).

OMG those screens are amazing. crytek has made 2 outstanding game engines but please just stay out of the game designing part.
