New enemy ideas

maybe zombie penguins.......
In the arctic? Back to school for you.

- New 'regional / climatic' variations on all existing enemy/ally types. Reused content is getting past excusable.
- Hydra. Design adapted to make it more fun to fight by doing crazy shit with Ice. Or something.
- Icthyosaur.
- Colossal Bullsquid. Like their Earthbound friends in the Antarctic, but amphibious.
- Aperture Cyborg Assassins (based on Combine Assassin code).
- Human Combine Synths (all but replacing Combine soldier presence. Boy are we over those guys).
*Mecha Breen
*Mecha Glados
*Mecha Shuhulathoi
^ The above combine to make a giant bipedal robot capable of destroying the Universe.
Gonarch, and we don't need a creature like the Flood in Half-Life. The Flood was one of the most annoying and stupid enemies I've ever had the displeasure of fighting.
Truth, but why are you all talking about the Flood? Hive Minded drone race with central defeatable master?. Not only is it a cliche idea, it's a cliche idea they've already used

I know. I just read back and noticed he didn't mean we need an enemy like the Flood and... I'm so confused, sorry I'll shut up now. :D

About that Hydra, maybe have it swim below the ice and resurface when you least expect it, not only having the player avoid it, but also avoid falling into the water. or something. Nah. That seems like it would be more suited for the Icky.

ok so your telling me that a secret under ground complex dedicated to advanced scientific research has a massive accident that brings aleins from a different planet onto earth, and then having a race of creatures from a different galaxy take over earth in 7 hours, and a siple scientist casuing that creatures (im talking about combine) down fall, for all that to happen on earth and yet you dont think that the combine would take penguins, modify them, and then send them to colder places on earth wouldn't happen.........

right now i think your looking like the idiot. besides the fact that almost all you posts that i have seen, are unneeded and completely rude.

edit: big bump

While i can't say what new enemies valve will throw in episode 3, it wouldn't suprise me if valve decided to put in new non combine/Xen based opposition because if i'm not mistaken, the borealis was supposedly missing for awhile right? Would valve have it following the route of the film Event Horizon? Namely transport to another dimension and when you return, bring something really evil back with you?

Yes, you're exactly right. I do not think the Combine would create synth penguins.

A GIANT FETUS!!! v2.

But in all seriousness, I really hope they would incorporate the Hydra. From the screenshots, it looked like a really awesome enemy to fight against.

knowing the combine they would make synth penguin torpedos, the ichthyosaur would be brillant, as would the hydra, and the Garg- must - have - gargantua

.... are you serious?

What if the origins of Gman lies with the ship, perhaps he was the ship's captain :p

a headcrabed vort, a headcrabbed strider and a headcrab penguin

What about one of those nigh-industructable combine walls, on legs?

I vote for more Icthy's and the Hydra.
If you have two things, and the first is different from the second, then logically the second is different from the first, so it doesn't matter which one you pick - but thank you for such a hilarious exposition on where penguins live. I was wondering when someone was going point that out.

Gordonsglasses, somehow, I don't think Valve will rip off Event Horizon. It wasn't cool enough. The Abyss, though, or Jurassic Park...
Also, just because they say it was lost for a long time, doesn't mean it was in another dimension/slow teleporting for any amount of that time. Besides, Aperture Science (wo)man-sized portals don't send you between dimensions, so I'm guessing that Ship-scale ones don't either.

f_combineftw, have the Combine ever actually synthed any race native to earth besides people? I don't think so. Therefore, I do not expect any terrestrial animals to make an appearance as synths. If anyone recalls any, please share and I will stand corrected.

Compelling argument. Just one flaw i see in it though, the portal technology used on the Borealis is on a whole different level to the handheld portal gun technology therefore when the accident occurred i would think that the fact that if it hadn't disappeared to another dimension and had been there all that time, don't you think the combine would have come across it accidentally or otherwise sooner then when they did?

Gunships are dolphins, Dropships are crabs. (I think)

Yeah try not to do that again.

Edit: Is "f_combineftw" real or just some really elaborate joke that's gone too far and now no one's going to admit to doing it?

The Synth process is nothing more than forcing cybernetics and armor etc. to an existing organism. As far as we know this does not involve the creature growing to massive proportions.

Yeah they are most definitely aliens. Unless I've seriously missed some news about dolphins and crabs...

This hasn't been proved or disproved from what I've seen. I think the biggest problem with it is that Synths are presented as distinct from the Transhuman combine who fit the above definition, though that could just be propaganda. 'Synth' to me doesn't just mean a Synthesis of Animal and Technology, it's a Synthesis of Creatures with other Creatures and then with Technology. I also think that they're grown as we see them, rather than taken from a base form and then upgraded on some kind of Combine Synth ranch.

So you're saying a gunship could be a dolphin and a whale or some larger alien creature synthed together with technology? That would seem to make sense.
