Hey a new short preview of EP2 is up over at gamespot. Has some new details on the story and a brand new screenshot of the new hotrod! Take a look,

Here is the most important part imo. (slight spoilers)
Erik Johnson: The Citadel's destruction triggers formation of a massive superportal. To close the portal and prevent the Combine from sending reinforcements, Gordon and Alyx must make sure the data packet they seized in Episode One gets to White Forest, a former missile base where their scientist friends and family have made their stand. It's a breakneck run through an alien-infested wilderness patrolled by Combine troops, marked by encounters with mysterious entities. If they make it on time, they stand a good chance of shutting down the portal. If they fail, then, in the words of Eli Vance, "It'll be the Seven Hour War all over again. But we won't last seven minutes this time."

Yeah, but i remember seeing somewhere that the rocket Gordon launched back in HL1 enabled the Combine to come to earth...that it somehow caused the Portal storms( or at least helped to cause them).

And the new Hotrod is really cool. Anybody recognize it? My American muscle history is lacking.

Who wants the scientists NOT to shut down the superportal? I do!!! Would make for a fantastic episode 3!!! Seven hour war all over again? BRING IT ON!!!

No... it would be more like a seven minute war. That doesn't sound fun at all

Huh. So they did change the design of the car, awesome.

That superportal in the background looks... interesting.

Looks to me like either a Charger or Camaro...

It would be like an epic battle with nobody giving the humans any chance of winning.....they are so outnumbered that the battle would almost be suicide. A last desperate stand. Think the rebel attack on the death star in star wars: A new hope. Winning against all odds. Don't tell me thats not awesome!

That car is the awesomeness. Valve has moved to Flatout, same-looking forest and the car is like, straight out of Flatout.

I really wait to play this now, looks pwnage. And pine trees are much realistic-looking than the Episode 1/Day of Defeat pines.

I had assumed that the Combine hastened the destruction of the Citadel simply because they wanted to send a message off... Not create another inter-dimensional portal. Makes a lot more sense now.

thx for this, its great to get some new content for EP2.

this def confims Alyx does not die

Wow. Some great storyline details there, and the confirmation of the hotrod!

At least she does not die from the bridge collapse. Still cant be certain she will survive the whole episode. Although from a development point of view it is stupid to kill off a character on whom the developers invested soo much in. My vote still goes for Eli to be the person who dies.

they're looking to ship this fall....maybe this is the actual release date this time? no more delays? (have there been at least 2 for Ep 2, TF, and Portal? if so it's possible)

Nice hints from EP2!
The sky in the car-pic looks friggin' awesome! :O

Episode Two specifically will be taking advantage of cinematic physics, which gives us the ability to create large-scale destruction events that are physically simulated. You'll see that feature in action right at the beginning of the episode.

Train Crash! :bounce:

LOL it'll be a cutscene with the train crash at the end of Under Seige 2...

Disregard all release dates. Just go about daily busy until one day you are plesently surprise by the news that HalfLife2 episode is out.

Im not sure about there play times, what is this measured by?

I can't believe I missed the GIANT SUCKING PORTAL in the first screenshot the first time I looked at it. The hunters look amazing too - the greenish effect and the subtle reflectivity of their armour looks amazing.

Also the story info sounds... interesting. The G-Man's back, and he's going to spilling some beans! Sounds fantastic. I guess if the Vortiguants prevent him from manipulating Freeman directly, I guess what he'd try would be to convince Freeman that his agenda was the right one to follow.

YES! They look like Japanese beetles. :D

I can NOT wait for this... Valve. I say you invent a time machine so I can go get the game from the future, give it to you, and let you copy, and publish it. (I want 50% of the cut! ><)

Must kill the positive vibe...

Looks like utter shit.

lucid...you're going to be consumed by not just a portal,

BUT A SUPERPORTAL.

What's that big dark lump in the sky right under the super portal.

The City 17 smoke column?

A mountain?

To high to be a mountain...

Or something more sinister...

The hunters are looking much different from that glimpse in Episode One.

I wonder if they will change on-screen when the video is replayed in the silo.

I think it's just a hill, it's probably closer to them than it looks.

I disagree. A bunch of rebels resisting a massive invasion from a multidimensional empire? I think it would pussify the combine too much.

I think it's cooler this way. A group of rag tag rebels cannot stand against the might of the combine, so they rush desperately to close the SUPERPORTAL before they are screwed, while the remnant of the City 17 Overwatch forces launch a suicide attack to ensure it's opening.

Anyway, it would be cool if the superportal is closed just in time to let some huge synth monstruosity to pass, in time for a boss battle.

The thing is if the SuperPortal is closed in the end of EP2 there wont be anything climatic in episode 3. Since the combine are effective blocked off from calling any reinforcements the rebels would just pick off the remaining combine resistance and get total freedom. This scenario would have worked if there was some kind of Combine stronghold left on earth which could still dish out some massive damage to crush the resistance but, as far as I know the Citadel in city 17 was the only such thing. The Synth boss would be cool though...

But it really doesn't matter what we think. Its what Valve thinks that matter.

Looks to me like a late 60's/early 70's Dodge Charger (most likely), Plymouth Barracuda, or Dodge Challenger. Can't see the entire rear quarter panel as Alyxs' ass is in the way! ;)

Actually, we know that other citadels exist in the world: remember when in episode one kleiner told about the portal network of the citadelS? (or something like that. He basically said that the core in the c17 citadel also mantained the portals in the other citadels).

So the overwatch still has a significant presence on earth, we can assume.

Of course what we think doesn't matter, we are only discussin and speculating ;). Anyway, I think that episode 3 could be about the retrieval of "the project" from the artic base, while earth overwatch forces also rush for it.

Also, did anybody notice the portal in the sky behind alyx in the "vehicle" screenshot? Does anybody else think the portal may be the new character (who actually survived from the black mesa incident) valve was talking about?

That sounds right. Why else would they have presented the video in the Arctic Base?

And yes, most of the discussion has been about the portal...but why would a survivor of an incident on Earth come in through a portal the size of Detroit, when Gordon is the only one who passed through the portals in HL1 and survived?

I was suggesting that the portal IS the character. It was a stupid joke anyway, about people always pulling out of their asses the strangest theories. I remeber that in 2003 or something a guy thought that dog was a tank, from a tank concept art screen. I mean a goddamned tank.

Yeah, but the Combine probably have a Citadel on every planet they control.

Wrong. You have been mislead by a fancy website.

I'd say the Superportal is futile. If a Citadel can project a portal even after its destruction, I see no reason why a citadel somewhere else in the universe couldnt tunnel through to C17.
We are so Foxtrot Uniform.
