New Gamers Depot benchmark results and City 17 hi-res screenshots!

That is a seriously good find ppl. Interesting article to!

"GD gets some hands-on benchmarking time with Half-Life 2 - our tests confirm NVIDIA's worst nightmare - its cards really do lose big time."

Why the hell did they change colours that represent each card around?

Damn annoying. Could trick some (dumb) people, as well.

There are some screens of the E3 techdemo in hi-res too. Nice stuff, even Bug Bait looks much nicer in hi-res full screen.

Can't wait to see this type of sh*t in realtime on my rig.
18 days and counting...

hehe, I was wondering the exact same thing! I can forgive them though, cuz those screen shots are pretty sweet!

Other than that, I prefer Anandtech's (p)review, but that's just me...

Hmmm, the reflections on the water seem to be the only real difference between those 3 shots...I wish those shots showed off the bump mapping on that wall a bit better...oh well!

Pretty poor comparisons, considering it looks almost the same :)
They dont show important parts, like what would happen if you shine a light on the wall, or shadows, the shiny stuff, lighting etc etc...

I dont supose anyone could provide a link that doesnt have the word game in it, which is blocked by my work firewall.

In the directX comparison screen page...I am failing to notice any real difference(poor choice of screen maybe).A few more comparisons might help me I suppose....Nice screenies though, like the striders, very War of the Worlds...
Any chance the will release the stand alone benchmark before Sept 30th?

There was an announcement by valve a few days ago, saying it'll be released on the 30th, so i guess not.

Just wondering, in the DX9 screenshots the ants lions etc dont have the same effects as in the latest demo vid. Is this due to the build been older?

the ant lion in the benchmark video had way more levels of detail than the bug bait ones, sugesting that those surface textures were added in later

but in the screenshot the pics where from older versions of the game.

Whatever man, the invisible guy wreathed in flame is one of the coolest things I have ever seen in a Computer game.

The differences in lighting and shadows will probably be more obvious when the scene is in motion.

Those other screenshots rock, btw! Nice view of the old city.

Pretty amazing. I'm really impressed with the visuals in HL2. I really liked the HDR lighting and bump maping in the Source demo vid. At this point I'm more impressed with HL2 visuals than D3 (which I've seen running in realtime.) I feel that I can make that comparision based on Bink videos are as close to real-time feel as your gonna get.
