Hmm.. Didn't notice they were the same article. This ones going :)

how come they dont kiss and make up and HURRY UP!!!!!

well, by all accounts, it looks like they wanna keep working together, and fulfill their obligations towards eachother... they're just having a few squabbles about some points.

yes, but if what Doug says is correct, valve will DESTROY Vivendi in court. So Sierra didn't have the vision to realize online distribution would take off... tough shit.

The part i find funny is the way Vivindi quotes gabe in sept 2000 (4 years ago) as saying that he doesn't understand how online distribution can make money. A lot can change in 4 years, and in this case it probably did. I doubt it was all part of the grand scheme. Chances are the initial vision of steam was a lot more meager than what it is now.

yep..and there was a huge jump in the number of people with broadband connections as well.

Although he showcased the steam technology i 2001.

But i do agree. Microsoft did the same towards the internet, and it gave them a crappy start.

Gabe could've started even earlier if he really thought it was viable.

he showcased "powerplay" in 2001, if i recall correctly. and it was garbage, and then never talked of again.
and who says they are going to trounce vivendi in court? this is valves side of the story, of course its going to show them as the knights in shining armour.
another thing, who knows that online purchasing will truly take off? the only one that has been available this way at release so far is CZ, which was a minor title and valve never released statistics of the sales numbers over steam.
i dont think that online sales will ever be huge, but thats just my opinion. but the way computers are headed, with the whole dumb terminal on an insanely huge network, and no PCs, it might go that way eventually.

this bothers me

The Article said:
Valve has confirmed that those plans have not changed, no matter what the outcome of the next scheduled hearing may be.

Between now and the official trail date, March 21, 2005

so here i think its saying that "the plans" will be in effect after "the outcome" of the trial. the plans in question are valves plans of selling hl2 through steam. and "the outcome" of the trial will be AFTER march 21, 2005.

so this suggests to me that half life 2 wont come out until after march 21, 2005. i really hope i am wrong. jesus christ i hope im dead wrong.
