New Gears of War pics (And you guessed right 56K'ers)

Do you got a problem agianst 56K'ers or something Loke :p ?

As this pictures are pretty big and would probably take half and hour to load on a 56K, I thought I'd just put up a warning for those poor guys. ;)

Holy shit, that looks amazing. I knew i got a 360 for something (haven't used in over a week :/ )...i've only got PD:Z and Kameo, PD:Z should be on PC (except Co-Op is great fun) and Kameo is pretty good fun but they just don't look at all "next-gen" and yes, i'm a graphics whore, infact it was the only reason i wanted one at release.

It has been announced that UT2k7 will be releasing for the PS3, so it's not a PC exclusive, WHEN is another question tho.

http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/unrealtournament2007/news.html?sid=6141746

Despite that Epic's main focus with UT2007 is the PC version. The fact that it might not be a PC exclusive (I'm pretty sure it will, I can see them getting the game done before the PS3 is released) is thus rendered irrelevant. The PS3 version sure as hell won't be released before the PC version however, taken from the article you posted:

Rein also confirmed online reports that Epic's current focus is the PC version of UT2007. "For now we soldier on with the plan to ship on PC as soon as we're done," he said. For more on that version of the game, check out GameSpot's

By exclusive I meant it'll get released on the PC as soon as it's done regardless of what happens with the console versions. There won't be any waiting around for the PC version in other words.

As you're a graphics whore, go and download the Fight Night Round 3 demo. Now. It's quite simply stunning. Additionally, I thought I'd never like a sports game, but it's really actually quite fun laying uppercuts into photorealistically portrayed people, as you might expect.

Loke single handed driving the broadband revolution - whether you like it or not :borg:

:D

mortiz, ah, I see, yeah, then it'll probably be exclusive.:)

Hehe sounds cool, i can't afford the network adapter plus i'm still waiting to get a god damn VGA cable to connect it to my PC screen, not been able to get one since launch in UK yet i got a 360 (full pack!) pre-ordered in november in 2 days for the first release day and my PC up here uses wireless broadband to downstairs so i'm not sure how i'd set it up. Maybe this is why i'm not really enjoying my 360 ..i don't know :(

Yeah, I've been wanting a VGA adapter for a while too. Bloody GAME doesn't even sell them full-stop, let alone being out of stock.

*Me laughs at Axyon and Alig for not pre-ordering a VGA cable/getting one!!*:p

Anyway, tbh GoW doesn't interest me that much, I'll wait for the reviews..
Seems like a generic 3rd person shooter with some tactical elements thrown in..:p

I bet GoW will deliver a fun experience, even though I probably won’t be playing it.
They have even thrown in some horror-elements, which look pretty cool.

Try http://www.videogamesplus.ca/

I was having no luck in the uk getting one before Christmas - decided to order a vga cable from these guys and got it within 7 days. Even though they're in Canada i've never been charged vat. It came to 30 quid incl. postage.

I get all my consoles and games from these guys - best on the net :)

That just for Xbox360 or? Looks pretty good, it somehow has the QuakeWars Enemy Territory look.

Freemanator, 360 first, then after the 360 vers has released they'll start WORK on a port, so I guess we'll see a PC vers in 2k7 if GoW ain't further delayed..

Cheers, might look into it, although 30 quid's a bit steep for something I don't crucially need. It's just that my TV's native resolution is 1366 x 768 which is what the VGA supports, but the Component cables don't, causing a need for image stretching for it to fit. Don't know what kind of difference it makes, I've heard it's pretty negligible.

Looks very very Cool, :D

dam it, its not coming to PC :|

Don't bother then, unless you can find a cheap cable. I'm not a fan of the 360's vga output - the colours are washed put and not a patch on the component cable. The only reason I have one is to play the 360 on a monitor when my better half wants to watch some shite on tv.

Gorgon, if you HAD taken the time to read my precious posts, Epic has stated that they'll start work on a PC port after the 360 vers has released, so if GoW makes a release this summer, we'll probably see a PC vers in 2k7.:)

So GameSpy date is incorrect, seeing as they'll probably need atleast 6 months to do the port, and they said specifically that they won't even start work on a port to the PC until the 360 vers is finished and in stores.:)

Edit:
Quote from Epic CEO/boss Mark Rein

"Could we, in the future, adapt Gears for Windows just as Microsoft did with Halo? Sure we could and, as you can see from J Allard's comments, Microsoft is clearly cool with that idea. But we're a long way off from thinking about that."

This was in an interview with Eurogamer a short while after E3.

I dunno, there's something that don't look "right" about those shots, I can't quite put my finger on it.

It might just look a bit on the side of plastic.

Team Xbox checked with Epic, and it turned out these shots are from a very very old build of the game. Expect it to look even better.

Yes, and those pictures showing the outdoor environment aren't from Gears of War AFAIK.

How so? It's not run and gun - to quote Cliffy B, it's "sneak and peek". You have to use cover for defense and fire, plus there's multiple ways of attacking from cover... popping out and aiming, or putting your gun into the open and spraying. Things like that are going to keep the game pretty fresh.
The reason it worries me is they are basing and action game off of concepts more fitting for other genres, like stealth games where you generally want to avoid direct fighting. It could be good, but it also could be extremely repetitive. The 800th time you're sitting behind a barrier shooting around the corner at a group of enemies could be just as uninteresting as the 800th time you shoot an imp behind a door in Doom 3, however in Doom 3 there was plenty of action that didn't involve door-imps...what other kind of action are you going to get in GoW when the creators are saying "you're going to die if you try fighting in the open"? It sounds like the whole game is going to be shooting aroud barriers.

I don't think a port would take too long...they already have UE3 running well on pc, most of the work would be moving over content and setting up lower detail levels for older PCs. They have already shown Gears of War running on PC so they might not have much work to do in terms of optimising gameplay code..

Perhaps, but seeing as MS are in a large amount of control(What with them publishing it, and maybe financing the development a bit too?) I'm assuming MS'll hold the port back, even if it gets finished..
Why?
Because GoW is one of the more hyped 360 "exclusives", so it'd only be common sense to hold it back FOR THEM.:p
But hopefully it won't be such a long wait as between Halo 1 on the XB and on the PC.:)

Yeah, I just meant after MS OKs the release.

Yup yup... here's the letter beyondunreal got from Mark Rein

First the demo baloney....

There is no chance a demo level of Gears is hitting the Xbox Live Marketplace this month, next month or the month after that. We love the Xbox Live Marketplace and Xbox Live Arcade and have lots of cool ideas how we can leverage them but not until the game is finished and we don't realistically know when that will be at this point in time. I can tell you however that the game is incredible and there will be lots of cool stuff in it that you didn't expect to see. Sorry for the tease.

Now, about those screenshots. Those are NOT new screen shots. In fact they're quite old and some aren't Gears at all. Here's what I wrote about them in a different thread on this forum...

These are very old images, mostly from our internal PR Kick-off meeting with Microsoft back in December 2004. They were never intended for release and they don't come anywhere close to representing what the game looks like today. In fact some of those images don't represent the game AT ALL! The grassy field images are from our GDC 2004 Unreal Engine 3 demo and NOT from Gears! That is TWO YEAR OLD engine demo content we showed to Microsoft PR people to give them an early flavor of what the tech could do. As you can probably guess we're pretty unhappy that these crappy images have surfaced. Unfortunately this isn't the first time our publisher has released content not intended for release and it feels like a punch in the gut every time it happens.

You could kinda tell these shots were old because it has the X,Y,Z axis in the bottom left hand corner.

I think this shot is indicative of what we'll see in the final game.

If that shot is indicative of what we'll see in the final game then I will be totally amazed. There is no way that the detail level will be that high and run at an acceptable fps. No way.

That said, I really hope I have to eat my hat when it comes out ;).

VictimOfScience, Mark Rein, in a Gamespot interview says, "...we're actually trying to stuff as much detail in the screen as you can possibly see." In addition, he keeps stressing the detail that's going to be put into the game.

Go download the Unreal Engine 3 demonstration clips from 2004 and tell me that it's unrealistic to see that kind of detail implemented two years later.

In addition, everything that has been shown thus far has been consistent in terms of the amount of detail achieved. Even the footage that I've seen has been really impressive. If you can find it, download the video of Gears of War from the Xbox 360 Launch Event (Zero Hour). While the quality of the video isn't the best, you can still make out a good deal of the detail. The scene with the rain is particularly impressive.

I'll believe it when I see it, that's all. Just like I will believe the MGS4 footage and Killzone footage as soon as I see the final game running. Here's hoping that all these devs can pump that much out of their repsective platforms so soon!
