What do u guys think of it? its $1000 at Tigerdirect.com

4 words: complete and total ripoff

extra VRAM, at least at this point, provides little or no performance advantage. Save yourself some money and buy two GeForce 6800 Ultras in an SLI configuration - it WILL outperform the new 512MB card by far, and cost a couple hundred bucks less.

Or just go ATI and buy an X850XT Platinum Edition.

yeah, i heard the new ATI graphic card that is coming soon can beat 2 Geforce 6800 ultras. so the new 6800 ultra is useless.

That money would be much better put to use if you gave it to me. =)

Seriously, a waste of money.

I was seriously going to buy this until I saw the price tag. For that price, I want to see some benchmarks first. I bought a MSI x800 xl for $300 to get my second comp up until the next-gen chips come out (or the BFG manages to destroy all others). First comp has 6800GT that eats HL2 for breakfast at 1920x1200, so I'm not that pressed for a ball of fire card.

...have an Abit Rx600XT PCI-e card that I'd like to trade if anyone's interested. Got a GPU waterblock (ATI compatible) laying around?

WHAT? Link please.

if its true about the ati card beating 2 6800ultras, then that is going to be incredible to see some benchmark results when they release it! Should be interesting to see!

i read this news at Gamespot.com and under the hardware section. i thought it was a rumor. Click here

Aye rumor.

But it's possible they could design a card similar to that and only open up it's capabilities with new models. ;)
They gotta milk it.

The only reason they didn't do that with the X800 is because Nvidia pulled out all the stops after their FX series. So they enabled all 16 pipelines right off the bat. They were going to do something similar to the X800 pro and it's 12pipelines for the top end card.

Just because you "heard" that ATI news card is going to be better than a 6800 doesnt make it so.....ATI is in a tough posisition, Nvidia has SLI and some bitchin' cards, I seriously doubt the R520 will beath two 6800 ultra's OC'ed when it comes down to it.

BUt then of course, valve hates Nvidia, so in HL2, it probably will.

Nah, ATI isn't in that tough of a position. SLI isn't going over quite that well since it requires you to throw $$ at it. Plus you don't get that much more for your money and they have to be the exact same card model (and even brand from what I hear) so that leaves those buying and upgrading later to SLI in a tough spot.

ATI has their 2x card tech coming for desktops and it will let you use different model cards so they say, again for those who want to throw money at it.

ATI is actually in a pretty good spot right now, if only they were there months ago (Nvidia did really well with the 6800GT spot, check sig). They have a really awesome highend card that costs less (X800XL) and the highest performing single card for most games (X850XT/X800XT PE).

Well you should expect any next gen card to be better than 2 x 6800 ultras, not just ATI's. When is the x850 512mb coming out?
